Machico resort is not for the night clubbing holiday maker,...
Machico resort is not for the night clubbing holiday maker, It was however for us a slow paced setting with a good selection of restaurants and supermarkets with walking routes for those who wish. The harbour offered boat trips, whale watching and surf lessons, the latter was enjoyed from the safety of a dry vantage point. Local bus into Funchal for 2-60 euro single was 50 mins away which opens up further opportunities for excursions and sight seeing like the red or yellow hop on hop off bus tours which operate from the promenade where the ticket is valid for 24 hours allowing to to spend time where the mood takes. Weather forecasting in resort will not take into account the drizzle from the mountains with can add a cooling break from the sunshine and occasional rain. Machico was good for food shopping, restaurants, and bars. We didn't use the beach, but saw lots of people swimming. The town is handy for some great walks on the east end of the island. We even managed a walk to Porta da Cruz and back from town.Guest review byDarcy - 10.0

Machico has shops with souvenirs and snack bars and restaurants as well as a clean beach with golden sand and changing facilities. There is also a supermarket and bus station enabling travel to other destinations on the island. People are friendly and helpful.
