This is the most beautiful place that we have ever seen.
This is the most beautiful place that we have ever seen. It has so many natural beauty and places to explore. I would strongly suggest that if you want to explore on your own and love driving and walking/hiking, please book rental car with airport from before and visit mid September to mid-October to avoid many tourists and still have great weather. Ensure you stay around Hotel Sao Miguel Park since it is very accessible and you can walk everywhere in 8 to 10 minutes to enjoy great city vibes and food. Please research well on google to find great places to explore on your own. One good website is Azores Trails. Lastly, do not rush to do multiple islands together. Take at least 7 days to enjoy Sao Miguel since there is a lot to do in every corner.Guest review byDarshanCanada - 10

We did the 2 day excursion of Ponta Delgada ( since we chose not to rent a car) ….it was phenomenal. The tour guide Joao was very knowledgeable and brought us to the most amazing spots on the island. Lovely place to explore , the botanical garden Borges is free and really nice to see . Lovely bars and restaurants scattered all over . Plenty to see and do here for a few days . We got a taxi to the lava caves in town ( grutas do carvão ) but we walked back as it’s only a 15/20 min walk . The 1 hour Cave tour is worth doing and cost €10 .Guest review byPaulPortugal - 8.0

I liked the area around the port, there is a wide choice of pleasant places to eat. I also liked the swimming area in the port, showers and changing rooms are paid but swimming is free. Parking can be complicated, our hotel advised us not to try to use the app to pay if you are in a hire car and this makes sense as we got a ticket and then there were three unpaid fines from the previous week added on. We visited the parking office with a copy of the rental agreement and got that sorted out. I highly recommend the gruta de carvao but it's very popular so book in advance and wear decent shoes as in places the floor is very uneven.Guest review byCarolFrance - 8.0

This is pretty interesting location and expectations should be assessed accordingly. It is a rocky island and if you are there for sunny golden beaches, this may be not the right place. We rented a car but there are many small group excursions and trips which cover entire island. The town itself is clean and nice with plenty of restaurants and shops. I would recommend the island of Sao Miguel and the city of Ponta Delgada to everyone. This island is a hidden gem not known by most American's. The owner is such a lovely person and you feel immediately welcome (home) in a familiar environment. The room was really nice with air-conditioning and everything else you need for a relaxing time after adventurous days. The location is perfect, you have a bakery right next door and you are in 5 min in the center. I hope I will be able to return and of course I'd book with Pilar, Thank you so much and all the best.
