Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do.
Velas was a nice quite town. There is lots to see and do. Great hotels and friendly staff. There is a "pool" downtown at the seawall within the ocean due to rocks that have been placed, so you can swim. They have a stage where artists and singers can perform. Lots of cute shops with great merchansie to purchase, with easy streets to walk through. Lots of cobbled stones, so wear comfortable shoes. The apartment was really modern compared to most places in the Azores. Great view with a large covered patio with a bbq which included charcoal and wood. There is a washer located on the covered patio. The rooms were spacious and all had AC. One of the rooms also had a loft with an additional sleeping area in addition to the main bed. I had intended to scout the rest of the island more, but a frustrating trip from home left me less than enegetic = still, I had never been to Velas before and there was plenty to see for a couple of days withoit leaving town. Amazing place. Completely stocked small supermarket. Chinese store had an amazing selection of clothes, electronics, etc. Restaurants were wonderful. Everyone we meet was helpful and friendly. Velas is a lovely little town on Sao Jorge.
Velas is a lovely little town on Sao Jorge. It isn't large but has everything you need for a week on tge island. There are several natural swimming pools with free umbrellas and shower/changing facilities (the fact they're free unlike so many places is really good). The restaurants we ate in were really good serving local produce with good value for money. The rest of the island has the spectacular scenery and Velas is a good place to base yourself to see it.Guest review byKent
