People smoking is a huge problem, thanks to American Tobacco, and we were advised 60% and more were hooked. Honestly you couldn't get away from it on the streets, in restaurants, hotels, everywhere, but thankfully not in our apartment block, though there were smokers on the footpath outside. There needs to be a huge public health and public education campaign, and the government needs to resist the tobacco taxes and money from lobby groups to concentrate on the health and welfare of its people. Belgrade is a bustling city that's a little edgy...we loved it. Enormous pedestrian area. Tons of restaurants and pubs throughout the area. Belgrade has a free public transportation system, but we did not use it...we walked everywhere. A very charming and bustling city. Hospitality services were amazing and very helpful and accommodating everywhere I went. The food and wine were amazing. I did not have a meal that wasn't delicious. I felt safe everywhere I went and it was not difficult to find my way around either walking or using public transportation. The hosts met us at the apartment, showed us the facilities and the map of Belgrad with some recommendations. They were incredibly nice and kind! Spoke English very well.
