A Fairytale Place
Surrounded by green Alpine mountains, the Slovenian island of Bled is like a piece of paradise in the middle of a picturesque lake. Home to the romantic Bled Castle, this popular tourist town will amaze you with its idyllic landscape and outdoor activities.
Overlooking the Julian Alps, the iconic Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church was built on the ruins of a temple dedicated to the Slavic goddess of love, Zina. The island is reachable by a traditional boat called Pletna and is a dreamy place for a wedding. According to the custom, the groom has to silently carry his wife up to the steps of the charming island.
Created at the end of the Ice Age by the Bohinj glacier, the picture-perfect Bled Lake is ideal for activities like fishing, rowing and canoeing. Nature lovers should not miss Iglica Waterfall, a natural miracle on the Suha stream.

The walk around the lake is great to do either way. A visit to the castle is a must. Vintgar Gorge is stunning and the walk back into Bled is easy to follow. Definitely visit Bohinj area whilst staying in Bled. You can’t cycle around the lake however the walk is lovely and you can get the electric boat back across the lake as an option. Great place to visit. Plenty of bars/restaurants in town. Probably 3-4 days enough if you just want to relax by the lake and in town. Longer if you're going to do some of the many trips/activities available - ziplining, canyoning, rafting. I'd recommend the canyoning and zipline. Lake Bled was wonderful, incredibly beautiful. We swam in the lake, paddle boarded on the lake, and caught the boat out to the island. We had a room with a view of the castle which was lovely. The staff were very helpful, helped us with our air-conditioning and gave us a discount code for attractions. The photos on booking.com make it look a little old, but it looked newly renovated, very modern, and had the best location on lake bled. We stayed at a 4star hotel for two nights afterwards and Starkl was definitely as good as that one. The bed was so comfy and we had a great view of the lake.
