Definitely go to Khao Sok if you love nature.
Definitely go to Khao Sok if you love nature. It was a once in a lifetime adventure that I'm so glad we did. The park is beautiful and the local guides are so kind. Definitely do a night on the lake if you can. We booked a private tour with Khao Sok Local Guides, which I found on Facebook, and they were great. Canoeing on the Sok River and the longboat wildlife spotting on the lake was my favorite. So peaceful and saw lots of animals. One perk of a private tour is that you can hike much deeper into the jungle on your hikes and can go off the main trails that the groups of 20-40 tourists have to follow. You also learn a lot more because you can hear what the guides are saying (big groups can't). Be forewarned that a moderate hike in the heat is no joke, but stay hydrated and you'll be fine. Park is amazing - lake is staggeringly beautiful, the park is full of wildlife and the range of options for activities is very broad - trekking, cooking class, elephant experience, canoeing, etc. It's very big - takes an hour to get from the village to the pier for the lake. Nice scenery, but not as good as advertised. Too many tourists and little chance of seeing wildlife. Too many bars with weed playing Bob Marley all day long. If that's what you are after, great. Also, impossible to get a Grab taxi from the place, you have to pay rip off prices for the local taxis or be lucky and catch the bus that isn't punctual. Khao sok national park has extremely limited range of...
Khao sok national park has extremely limited range of options. In theory there are a few trails that you could walk but in practice there is only one. We did the day and night walks, both on the same trail. You can’t walk alone as there is always the sign up claiming ‘signs of elephants on the trails’. Hardly surprising as everyone knows that the elephants use one of the resorts near the road to get salter. Fairly obvious that it’s a bit of a money earner for the local guides who seemed largely uninterested beyond showing everyone the same wildlife day or night. Quite frustrating not to be able to walk further and without crowds. The lake, whilst being a pleasant and impressive boat ride doesn’t live up to expectations. Whilst being very photogenic it fails to offer anything else besides an Instagram photo opp’. Virtually zero wildlife on the lake, I literally saw one bird in three hours which is quite extraordinary imo. The cave is underwhelming and packed and the ‘swimming’ opportunity is an extremely poor experience in a very limited area. You aren’t allowed to swim without a life jacket and the water was suffering from local pollution, which is hardly surprising. It is a value for money ,tree house hotel just a couple of km from Khao Sok. Rooms are fairly clean and spacious and high above the ground! Food for lunch and dinner is great. You would nt expect such a nice food in the jungle! Mr Tee the owner orchestrates this establishment and raises it s value because he will save you time by eagerly arranging you trips,massages,taxi and excursionsn i the region of Khao Sok. We booked the 1 night 2 day tour of Khao Sok with the hotel and it all went so smoothly. The ladies at Bamboo huts were so helpful and arranged for our big backpacks to be transported to the bus for our onward travel. The accommodation in the hotel was basic but we had everything we needed and we were happy with everything. It's situated next to the river and most rooms have a great view. There's a refreshing pool and helpful staff.
