No working ATMs can be a problem if you don't have scan and pay. I don't like carrying that much cash. Other than that, its a perfect quiet get away. Everything i needed was in walking distance. Koh Samed has changed quite a bit over the years.
Koh Samed has changed quite a bit over the years. It now feels much more like a tourist hot spot than a quiet island escape… and it’s still developing. You can still find only moderately-populated powder white beaches however, with some of the best local on-beach restaurants anywhere in the country. And it’s only 50B for a shaded deckchair all day. In terms of negatives it can become overpopulated on weekends, and in the high season, and can be very scruffy in places when you go in land. ENVIRONMENTAL concerns: the world needs an urgent and combined action and this Island it’s not an exception. 200 Thb are paid to enter the island claiming it’s a “reserve” but instead of money being used to keep the island clean we can see PLASTIC being massively used, the Thai villagers itself don’t look focused on the environment ideology, and a massive temple it’s being build…questionable routing of the money I guess…but I don’t have all the facts to judge this…but another paradise it’s severely compromised if the Thai government and island management don’t improve this ASAP! Near by the Ao Chao, if we pass the next hotel on the right side, local people live there and we can see plastic all around the houses, directly on the floor…a good image on the hotels and a very bad one on the “hidden” side…not good at all and a sign that EDUCATION needs to be improved for the sake of our PLANET!Guest review bynpfcruzUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Beautiful island, frequented by weekend holiday makers from Bangkok. Beautiful beaches. Food and drinks there are slightly pricey. Thai people are generally nice and have super big smile and warmth. Unfortunately for me, in Ko Samed... some how I felt that the big smile and warmth from the locals here is a notch lower compared to other places in Thailand. Possibly due to over population of tourist on the island disrupting their beautiful lives here.Guest review byEdSingapore

Honestly, everything is perfect: the best location (7 min walk from pier), directly on the beautiful beach (hotel's own space on the beach), right in the middle of night fire shows, 2 minutes to 7/11, lots of restaurants. It's not a hotel providing rooms, it's like bungalows complex. But it's even better. The bungalows are built from wood, simple and natural.
