Istanbul is an incredible mix of history and energy.
Istanbul is an incredible mix of history and energy. My favorite spots were Çamlıca Camii, Eyüp Sultan Mosque, and the Bosphorus area, especially at sunset. I also loved visiting Akasya AVM for shopping — it’s modern and relaxing. Getting around is quite easy with the Marmaray and metro connections; public transport is well organized once you get used to the Istanbulkart system. Food is a highlight everywhere — I enjoyed kebabs, baklava, and Turkish tea almost daily! Even simple street food tastes amazing. For solo travelers, Istanbul is safe, lively, and full of friendly people. Just walking around Taksim and Sultanahmet or taking a ferry ride across the Bosphorus is a great experience.Guest review byGanisherUzbekistan - 6.0

Pro’s lots of shopping, lots of restaurants with a variety of menu’s. All the shops we visited took Euro. Turkish baths are amazing so relaxing. Loved the shopping some of the shops in the main streets are cheaper than the bazar… The spice bazar was amazing.. Sadly, Istanbul has gotten very touristy and quite expensive. If you like queueing than I would recommend it. Some amazing historical sites that are worth the queues but the entrance prices are well in excess of what I believe they should be charging. The Turkish people fall into one of two categories, never in between: Either exceptional friendly and helpful or rude & don't care that they are doing a job. It is totally hit or miss. The food is great but be aware that they use flour or such like in almost everything so if you have intolerances, this is not the city for you. Travel around the city is fairly easy once you figure out how/which to buy - Istanbul card. It’s a big city. 16 million people without the mass of tourists. The sameness of food and shops was quite surprising. A lack of creativity? Hundreds of the same spice shops, same food offerings, same clothes, etc. I enjoyed the walks across the main bridge and talking to the fishermen (no women) in broken English and using the AI language. The antiquities. Amazing. I am a bit of a life style goose walker and thought the mosques were wonderful but not worth $90 each etc. walk the city. Travel the water. There was a free shuttle available which needs pre booking, however we were happy to pay for a taxi to Taksim square, which was only a few euros.
