A beautiful but expensive city. The vibe is wine tasting, jewelry, art, designer clothing and restaurants with a beach nearby. The quality is good everywhere, with some exceptional locations. Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula provide one of California's most impressive gems. The natural beauty of the coast is unique, abundant and memorable. But be forewarned: Once upon a time, Carmel-by-the-Sea was the very picture of "rustic." That charm has morphed into what my partner has described, regarding downtown, as "an amusement park for Silicon Valley brahmins." Carmel is one of my favorite places to visit. It has many things to offer. The natural beauty of the environment is a dog-friendly environment. The beach is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, but I recommend you bring a jacket.
