There wasn’t as much to do in Eureka as we thought there would be. We like to walk and do birdwatching. There were not a lot of trails for this. We did drive around the marsh, but there were not a lot of safe places to pull over and identify the birds we were seeing. The highway circling the marsh was a nice drive, but the traffic was fast , so not a lot of opportunities to enjoy the scenery. We decided it wasn’t really worth the trip from Crescent City. If doing it again, we would skip Eureka.

Eureka is a very cool town.

Eureka is a very cool town. You hsve therocean and the redwoods: nice people, great food ad fabulously fresh seafood affordable living. Unfortunately I broke mat wrist at a VRBO (always poorly managed) and had to deal with the poor supervision team who threatened to kick me out - even though I fell with no lights on the deck after dark Eureka yes, this property no. You can stay anywhere -such a great town.... I'm a little slow since I broke my wrist taking my dog out last night......The staff at VRBO were great until I spoke to a "supervisor she said" women who said \she was a supervisor and said one was going to have me evicted (call the cops) ion I didn't pay the exorbitant fees for the next few nights; even thouhg I could not leave because of my cast, because the deck was a slippery/unlit mess. I'm going to sue the property managers and owners - they have been horrible at best Stray in town but dint be fooled into staying 31 Crsbb Street.

Very nice town, we went to Fortuna Locha's for lunch and Ferndale, a wonderful place, and Eureka was central to where we wanted to be. There was much more to see in the area, that we'll have to come back for and plenty of places to visit and restaurants.

I grew up in the Arcata/Eureka area. It has changed so much.

I grew up in the Arcata/Eureka area. It has changed so much. All the Industry has gone away. No more fishing, logging, bulbs, or the sub contracts that go along with those major industries. Sure there is the college in Arcata, but that does not help Eureka. It feels as if it's a dying community now. I don't see what keeps it going. However, I did not see many homes for sale. Which means if one goes on the market, it does sell quickly. There are several empty store fronts. Everywhere you look, so up and coming business owners might have a chance there. It was sad to see the once thriving fishing and logging community gone. There is a lot of redwood area south of Eureka in the Garberville area for camping and hiking. And north of Eureka in Trinidad are beautiful beaches and history.

Please visit the north part of the state!

Please visit the north part of the state! It's unlike anything you have seen. Make reservations for Fern Canyon about six weeks in advance. Downtown Eureka is very quaint and the events are awesome. It's like walking through a movie set. I highly recommended Humboldt County for all explorers!

Pretty good place to stay! Everything was clean and comfortable, and it worked perfectly for our overnight stop. Friendly staff and easy check-in. Great value for the price, we’d stay here again. We also had a wonderful experience with the staff: my son forgot his headphones in the room, and the hotel kindly agreed to send them back to us by mail. He was so happy to get them back, and we are very grateful for their extra kindness and help.

Nice little cabins on the RV resort just outside Eureka. Clean amenities and very family friendly. We only stayed for a night but would come back if we stop in Eureka again.
