Fairbanks is better suited to two or more people.

Fairbanks is better suited to two or more people. In the past I've had trouble booking tours unless I want to pay double. The people are lovely. I don't think I'd go there again without renting a car. Restaurants are pricey compared to the lower 48, but their season is very short. The menus are full of panko-coated proteins such as halibut. The menus also tend to offer moose and reindeer, which aren't bad. I think it's best to go there if you've got a passion to pursue such as hiking, fishing, etc.

Don't miss a walk along the river to visit to the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Centre. It has an expansive and informative background to the city's beginnings and development. The Discovery Riverboat Cruise tour was excellent for its description of first nations culture, dog-sledding and river life.

Alaska is the "last frontier" in the United States. I have been to all 50 states now and I am so glad we made the trip. We toured the city, went on a riverboat ride, went to a state park, went to Denali - all great.

Fairbanks would likely not be the main destination for an Alaska trip, but if you're already in Alaska, it does offer some interesting excursions. The highlight was the Discovery Riverboat tour which was a lot of fun. The University of Alaska's museum of natural history was interesting. The Chena Hot Springs Resort is a very popular venue about one hour outside of Fairbanks. Activities related to the native Dene culture are always worthwhile. The downtown area is nice but kind of dead on Sundays. Things tend to close early so by 10PM, pretty much everything is done.

Breakfast for good. There was a nice selection and nice breakfast room. You are even able to see the Aurora on clear nights from the hotel, which I did in March. They will call you to let you know if it is visible so you don't have to wait . The rooms are nice and beds are comfy. The location is convenient. Nice restaurant next door . We ate their twice in five nights. They have a nice selection at reasonable rates. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was much much then I expected. A true value for the rate.

The lodge is so homey and comfortable with good grounds to walk around. Our room is clean and tidy withcomplete kitchen utensils, flatwares and plate including a microwave oven for heating up food. The toilet is clean with all the bath and shower needs. Breakfast is good. Janet, the owner of the lodge, was so kind and accommodating. She would wake up the guests and knock on our doors in the middle of the night just to call us and see the Northern Lights. She would even, take our pictures with the lights as our backdrop.

The female staff was very kind. We took the Alaska Railroad to Fairbanks. The staff came to pick us up at the station, which was very helpful. We were able to see the Northern Lights when we went outside in the middle of the night. If we go to Fairbanks again, we'd like to stay here.
