    Jamestown is small and quiet.

Jamestown is small and quiet. It’s great if you have a dog and you want someplace peaceful for Fourth of July. Sonora, which is much bigger is only a few minutes away. Columbia is not far either There are a lot of antique shops both in Sonora Jamestown and if that’s what you’re into it’s a great place to go

Charming little antique shops and a great train museum.

Charming little antique shops and a great train museum. “Railrown 1897”, you can ride an ol’ caboose or passenger cars on a steam locomotive and learn about the rich history of gold country. Good little Mexican food restaurant “Morelia Mexican Restaurant” and close to other historic towns as well. If you want to go to a good watering hole, there’s “Rawhide Saloon” just across the 49. Overall Jamestown has a small town feel with lots of California gold rush vibes.

Jamestown goes back to the California gold rush.

Jamestown goes back to the California gold rush. It is a small town, about 3000 people, but its small downtown has a lot of character. We stayed at the historic National Hotel right on the main street and we are glad we did. It dates back to 1859. Be sure to checkout the Railway museum about a 15 minute walk from the downtown. They have old engines and rolling stock that have been used in dozens of movies (like High Noon, Unforgiven and Back to the Future III) and TV shows (like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wild Wild West). There are multiple wineries nearby also.

Very fun place to stay! Our room was very comfortable. Good bed. Extremely nice bathroom. It was 108 degrees outside and we were completely comfortable--and I am one of those people who is not happy when the temp is over 72 degrees. Also--nice staff. We ate at the hotel (dinner and breakfast) and both were just fine. I felt like the chef/staff were really trying.

A small, quiet little town which appeared to be closed for most of our stay. We should really have done better research. Sonora is a few minutes up the road and ticked every box but didn't have Jamestown's peace.

our visit to Jamestown was to experience the gold rush days. Staying at the National was part of traveling back in time. The hotel provided an authentic experience. Paired with a gold panning tour, this made the experience worthwhile. Be prepared to not have some of the modern amenities available as this is part of the experience. Did not have a chance to dine at the hotel restaurant, but did find some adequate dining in nearby Sonora.

Large hotel with a casino but very quiet during our stay. Huge parking lot. Staff responded very quickly. Great playroom for everyone - perfect when traveling with a child or teenager. Breakfast was extra but very tasty.
