The town is historic and charming.

The town is historic and charming. We ate at Benjamin’s, but be sure to dine upstairs. Big portions, you can share and should. Visited The Breakers and The Marble House. You can use uber or drive. Loved my time in Newport. I felt very safe.

I've been coming to Newport for the Jazz Festival for almost 20 years. It's a trip I look forward to every year. Once I park the car I rarely have to move it since most of the places I frequent are walkable. I always make my way to the cliff walk as i find it very relaxing.

We take a day trip to Newport about twice a year, and wanted to stay a few days this time. Very happy we did. It was very busy, but due to size it's still manageable. Parking is a bit of a problem, but we downloaded the Passport app which made it easy once we found a spot. Our favorite activity is the Ocean Drive out to Brenton Point. Parking is easy there and you can sit out on the cliffs and enjoy the surf. Bring chairs as benches have been removed (boo hoo).

Newport is great If you are into nautical and historical locations. Reminds me of Annapolis. The streets are very tiny in the center of town much like Old England. They are working on the Cliff Walk so time didn't allow me to find parking and walk to the part that is open. I went for a John Lodge concert at the Jane Pickens which is a nice little theater. Getting around is easy on foot, less so with a car because of the narrowness of the streets and insufficient parking. The drive around the lower tip was nice and you could see lovely vistas with rocks and birds in the water.

It took me a while to get there by train but it’s completely worth it for the summer. There’s always a lot of outdoor things to see, whether it’s walking to harbor, going to the beach and cliff walk or touring some of the islands or simply taking a boat ride. There’s tons of events tennis, polo, dance festival, classical music festival and of course folk and jazz fest. Then there’s all the shops! There’s great stuff to find besides the normal touristy stuff but where Newport shines is their antique stores and small galleries. I always find something beautiful there and it makes the trip very special. Plus all the gallery owners and shop workers I’ve met have been great conversationalists and clue you in on other things going on. What puts Newport over the top of course is the great weather during the summer and a safe, fun atmosphere.

We loved touring the mansions with the recorded descriptions via our phones. We also enjoyed Newport Classical Music Festival performances at this time in July. (Buy tickets months ahead!) Joe's on Memorial was a favorite dinner spot and The Elms Carriage House was a lovely lunch destination. We didn't like the free trolley too much. The staff were kind, but we couldn't tell where to wait for it throughout our first day and at least 3 different pick up times, we watched 2 trolleys drive right by us. We drove ourselves the rest of the week and did fine with parking.

Prime location for walking around Newport. Plenty of restaurants and Markets directly around the hotel with very pedestrian friendly designed streets. Red Parrot has a very diverse menu and it's only a 10 second walk in front of the hotel. Cliff Walk is a must see if you're in the area. A 22 minute straight line walk, or a very short drive/Uber.
