The city of Truckee is very charming.
The city of Truckee is very charming. You have the old Truckee down town, with restaurants, museums and all kinds of store to buy souvenirs and merchandise. Then you have the new Truckee down town that have grocery stores, banks, pet hospitals and more restaurants. The bike path along the river is vantastic, you can ride a long distance or short distance. Beautiful pine trees with the river running thru it. Alpine bliss.Guest review byPatrickUnited States - 10

We loved Truckee much more than the busy areas around Lake Tahoe. Truckee is a charming little village. We had really good brunch in town followed by quite an amazing hike around the Donner Summit and the Mount Judah Loop trail. If you want to get away from the city, but you aren't sure...
If you want to get away from the city, but you aren't sure you want the touristy crowds of Lake Tahoe, then come to Truckee and Donner Lake. A great downtown area with restaurants and shops, but not overdone. Endless hiking trails and running streams/rivers everywhere (this was early June). I will be headed back to Truckee every year to breathe and relax and watch both the sunsets and the stars.Guest review byface of CWUnited States - 10

It's really close to Northstar, if you're planning to park in carpool free parking lot, that would be the best. Kitchen has all equipments, and lots of utensils, even for little kids. There are also lots of toys, board games and books for kids. Kids never felt board and parents also enjoyed a relaxing time. We had an excellent vacation here.
