Search hotels in Uvalde, TX

I was in Uvalde doing research for a book. I know the region, so see it through personal, political eyes. Don't like all the Border Patrol, police, presence. The undertow of violence and fear. Love the kindness of the people. The bounty of nature. Always have.

Went for Dove hunting which was mediocre. Day leases have gotten entirely too high! Will not go again. Ate at Jack;s Steak House. Food was terrible with bad service. The next day we ate at Oasis which was alright. Had a 10 oz ribeye which was okay. It was cut in 1/2-3/4" which tends to be hard to cook. I prefer my steaks cut 1-1/2-2" since I eat them medium rare. The steaks had very little marbling. The Whataburger was good.

Location is alright. Place is run down. Just seem scary there. Room didn’t have ac on I got in late and was hot. The show walls in bad shape. Someone makes repair not qualified to do. Towels and pillows small low quality.

Uvalde is a very beautiful small town, very friendly people and plenty of restaurants and shopping....EXCEPT a small Restaurant called; "The Local Fix" TOO LONG of a wait, waitress took TOO LONG to render service and the food was very so and so. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!

Uvalde is a beautiful old Texas town, full of local history, shops, and recreation. I have stayed there many times over the years. Garner State Park is a short drive to the north. The Lucky Eagle Casino is 70 miles to the south. Until the recent school shooting on 5/24/22 I would have rated Uvalde as one of the safest places to visit in Southwest Texas. It is a major crossroads of Hwy. 90 and Hwy. 83 It is easy to find your way around town. Most hotels are located on East Main Street, which is Hwy. 90. As are many of the local and chain restarants.
