I have heard on the radio that Pilgrim's Rest was 'revamped" a few years ago, but what a disappointment. Great strides were made to install shopping units for the local traders to sell their goods - but all of the traders were selling the exact same African Art. We were there on a Saturday, and most of the other museum-like shops were closed. It was a ghost town. The local pub was open, and we had a drink. There are only two shops you can buy something from, and they seem reasonably priced, but I will not waste my time. Sadly, no one can think outside the box to liven up the place. It was really a great surprise esp. after many years of not operating and very dangerous. The town upgraded and I loved the teagarden we had lunch at. The pottery and stain glass shop. The people so friendly and the place really clean all over. My husband had trout and I had a chicken mayo pancake. We enjoyed our short stay in Pilgrim's Rest.
We enjoyed our short stay in Pilgrim's Rest. We arrived a little late in the day due to long delays due to roadworks. Most tourist attractions closed at 4pm so we couldn't explore that afternoon. They opened again at 9am, so we delayed our departure to explore a little, but didn't do the attractions justice. In the evenings, it was quite cold outside, but you could warm your rooms with a fireplace or electrical heater. The dinners were outstanding. Because of the weather we were not able to have a walk around the hotel but from the little non-foggy windows I believe the view is magnificent.
