My partner and I hired a car from Bologna and drove to Malcesine (you will need a car) before heading across to Venice and then down to Tuscany. Malcesine is a hidden gem, the drive down to the lake was spectacular. Our stay at Guesthouse Grandview was magical. The property is higher up and the view of the lake was absolutely breathtaking. Monika, the host of the property was super friendly and helpful with many recommendations on where to visit, eat and swim - we truly felt part of the family with the level of hospitality that was provided from all the staff including the resident dog! The room and property were kept in pristine condition and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including free parking. If you don’t feel like a drive down to the town there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance (which were amazing) otherwise a drive down to the picturesque town only takes about 15 minutes or so where there is a supermarket, as well as many shops and restaurants to explore on the lake. Highly recommend booking this property and exploring what Lake Di Garda has to offer - a must add to your Italian road trip holiday! We stayed in Villa Smeralda for five nights and absolutely loved it! The room was clean and we had a beautiful lake view. The breakfast was excellent and fresh every day! Staff members warmly welcomed us and gave us a lot of good tips on what to do in Malcesine. The rooftop terrace and the pool area were also wonderful! Location was reachable by walking from the port, the bus station and the old town. The lake and the beach is also easy to reach by walking.
