This place is an institution, it's been around for decades. One of the original backpacker places in Varanasi. I stayed here twice in the 90's. It's still going strong, lovely rustic place that has added some rooms and piping hot showers over time, and kept up with time by having a really fast WiFi. It's got a prime position right by Ganges and the terrace has excellent views. Due to the brise from the river, rooms does not get damp here as they do further into the lanes. I was so happy when I finally recognise it on Booking.com after having tried for long time. It is an old style budget place though so don't come and complain if you expect luxury.

The caretaker - Anil was on hand all the time to help. He helped navigate our way round Varanasi. He kept the apartment clean and safe. We weer a party of 3 adults. The location is ideal with views from 3 rooms of the Gangha.

Staff. Without exception. From Ajay, to the porters, the restaurant staff, everyone always cheerful and helpful. Organisation. Hotel transfers and walking and boat tours made our lives so easy. Location. Right on the Ganga. View of sunrise over the river from our bed. Easy access to the Ghats. Food. Restaurant on the Rooftop provided the most amazing authentic food. Esp Butter chicken, Murg Lababdar, Crispy potatoes. Service was great too. You must try the lime and soda- with or without sugar. Bed. Lovely comfortable king size bed. Shower. Always hot water and a good shower. Outstanding value for money. Would recommend the Palace on the steps without hesitation.
