Fantastic facilities, great breakfast. My kids loved it!
Among the many hotels we stayed at, at this one all the hotel staff were very fluent in English.

It looks really traditional, clean and the owner is really professional with her tea ceremony. She also shared knowledge about Kyoto’s traditions as well as recommending us places for dinner. Overall, the experience were great.

Very clean and nice facilities (laundry, showers, snacks, large lounge room, enough bathrooms). Quite a lot of amenities that are accessible through longer stays. Meeting other travelers, although brief, was very fun and cool - the place definitely encourages some socializing as you will run into each other here and there.
Good security, I was not worried about my luggage at all - would recommend keeping valuables with you in the capsule just in case.
Definitely best staying here for more than 2 nights to maximize the experience (I only stayed one night unfortunately).

No matter what accommodation I stay at, I always feel like I enjoyed staying at hostels the most or for this case "Machiya", a wooden townhouse stay! The warm feeling if meeting people and talking to hosts is always irreplaceable for me to bring back memories from my travels. Toni and Ikumi were such great host that I had fun being there. Not only that the interior was so aesthetic and practical. Recommend anyone who wants to drop by Kyoto and try to at least have their stay there! Awesome breakfast as well and convenient to travel to sightseeings spots and access to convenience stores! I took the single room because I only stayed one day and boy the futon was so comfortable, I just to sleep more!

This is a great place to stay for when you want to have your own private quiet space (and a bit more space than a typical hotel room), but still want to be cared for by hotel-like staff. We landed on this place because I wanted to stay in a typical Ryokan, but my husband wanted his own bathroom. It was the best stay of our Japan trip out of 3 hotels that were all far above average. It feels very secluded and private, there are around 10 apartments in total and everyone has their own entrance. There's a coin washing machine as well. There is a small breakfast buffet with really great coffee and they provide some free snacks during the day as well I believe. All in all it feels really kind and caring.

The staff make this hotel. Location is fine, rooms are nice, traditional with modern style and touches but the staff make the place. Ignore the star rating, that's down to minimal additional facilities, if you don't want/need a pool etc, you can't go wrong here.
