The host is very responsive, replying messages promptly and she speaks very good English so we have zero issues for checking-in ! Alya the host completed the dual pilgrimage and I guess from there she understand the need of travellers. We love the place, feel like home after our long hours of hiking journey. The place is very very clean, bonus is they provide the laundry & drying machines, and provided some snacks for us to eat those are very sweet gestures.

The private, unobstructed view of the Torii gate itself is worth booking this place for. But on top of that, it’s a spacious, beautiful traditional Japanese house. Easily the most beautiful stay of the trip.
There’s a great ramen place and konbini (convenience) store just a few mins walk down the road.
The house is by a busy road, however the traffic mostly stops at night, you will sleep to the sounds of frogs (:

Very homely feeling during our stay in Hongu. Mandy not only made us feel welcome but looked after and took us around as if we were family. She also went out of her way to organise a taxi to find us when we got lost during our hike - without her I am not sure what would've happened. Both home prepped meals were amazing, and the acupuncture service was extremely professional. We really enjoyed this authentic Japanese homestay experience and hope to be back soon!

Great hospitality and price! Near for Hongu shrine and bus service. They have "Kumano spirit" to offer a safe welcoming place for Kumano visitors. I really appreciate the staff taking time to share talking with me.
This is a guesthouse so you need to prepare and bring your own night ware and food. Some snack food for purchase, but there are not much restaurants open at night, or store. You choose guesthouses with the limited condition.

Sanae was so lovely and we loved the time we spent at this house. It's HUGE compared to any other accommodation we stayed at in Japan and it felt so nice having a place to ourselves to call 'home' for the short time we were here for the Hongu Loop hike. It was a perfect place to start the hike and we easily made the loop within 7-ish hours and a lunch break inbetween. It's not far from two bus stops which take you to and from the main train stations that got us back to Osaka.

The place is very nice, and the hotel offers a ride to the bus stop. In this area of Japan and around Hongu, bus is the main way for you to reach different trails.
Food is fantastic.
Stuff are very helpful and communicate well.
