Kohei the owner really puts his heart into the place and hosting guests! From the room to the food everything has a history. Also using the natural hot spring closeby is really cool! Make sure not to burn yourself :)

Great position, in front of a very cool hot river. The traditional Japanese style room was very nice, big and comfortable. Several onsen with different styles that felt very authentic. We really liked dinner and breakfast.

The place is very nice, and the hotel offers a ride to the bus stop. In this area of Japan and around Hongu, bus is the main way for you to reach different trails.

The facility is charming! It is a wooden cottage in the middle of mountains with beautiful view. There is a river just next by, so if you get there early, you can refresh yourself there.
The rooms are spacious and there is a place you can hang your wet clothes.
There is also a common space where you can hang out with other guests. I also used it when my room-mate wanted to sleep and I was still working on PC. Very useful and convenient.
There's very well working Wi-Fi, as well.
The dinner was delicious. We had seasonal steamed vegetable with rice. They have vegetarian (tofu) and non-vegetarian (meat dumplings) version. For breakfast there were toasts with cheese, jams, peanut butter, yogurt, fruit etc. You can also prepare a meal for your next journey.
The beds are comfortable and you have great view from windows.
The kitchen is very well equipped and you can use it if you need. You can make yourself coffee anytime, which I very appreciated.
The staff was friendly and very helpful. She could speak Japanese, English and Spanish, which was quite fun because all the guests there could also speak Spanish for some reason. :-D
Situated in Hongu, Guesthouse Trailhead is a recently renovated accommodation, 22 km from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art and 24 km from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum.

The host is very responsive, replying messages promptly and she speaks very good English so we have zero issues for checking-in ! Alya the host completed the dual pilgrimage and I guess from there she understand the need of travellers. We love the place, feel like home after our long hours of hiking journey. The place is very very clean, bonus is they provide the laundry & drying machines, and provided some snacks for us to eat those are very sweet gestures.
