Boasting garden views, The Waterfront Studio Opito Bay offers accommodation with a garden and a patio, around 37 km from Opua Forest. This beachfront property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. The property is non-smoking and is set 16 km from Kemp House and Stone Store. Beautiful, comfortable accommodation for two with a spectacular outlook in a beautiful and quiet location, and amazing hosting, make this one of the best accommodations we've ever enjoyed in NZ. This is a self-contained accommodation unit for two in a quiet location adjoining the host's house. The unit is new, beautifully furnished, well-appointed and very comfortable. The view overlooks Opito Bay from a height, and has a spectacular outlook into the wider Bay of Islands with outside dining and sun loungers. Alan is a generous and very thoughtful host who has created a wonderful guest experience full of detailed touches to make a comfortable, easy stay. There is a toaster, microwave and Weber BBQ, but it's worth noting is that the unit doesn't have full self-catering facilities: it lacks a hob, oven and kitchen sink. But Alan more than makes up for this - he does the washing-up, and provides a beautiful array of breakfast supplies every morning, including plenty of delicious fresh fruit. There's delightful complementary selection of cold drinks in the fridge on arrival, and an assortment of tasty snacks. It's absolutely outstanding! The location in Opito Bay is quiet, about 15 minutes from Kerikeri. There's a small network of beautiful trails through the bush around the end of the peninsula walkable from the unit, with a spectacular view at the lookout and a beautiful sheltered cove for swimming and snorkelling on the north side. The Kerikeri peninsula is a hotspot for kiwi, and we heard one close to the unit one night.

With free WiFi, this homestay provides a cable flat-screen TV, a washing machine and a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and toaster. Towels and bed linen are provided in the homestay. For added privacy, the accommodation has a private entrance and soundproofing. David and Suz made us feel at home straight away. The accommodation was outstanding, and we had everything we needed for our stay. We couldn't fault anything. I would definitely recommend Paihia on the Rise as a wonderful place to stay. Great value for money, too. Thanks for the fresh fish for dinner, Dave. It was fab!

Set in Russell, 200 metres from Tapeka Point Beach and 1.2 km from Flagstaff Hill, The Pacific Room, Tapeka Point provides accommodation with amenities such as free WiFi and a flat-screen TV. 2.3 km from Christ church and 2.3 km from Russell Museum, the property offers a garden and a terrace. Outdoor seating is also available at the guest house. Absolutely loved that we had chosen to stay in Russell for seven nights. The Pacific room was very spacious, we ended up with two rooms. The location is on a road that is easy to walk on to reach beaches at both ends. It was so quiet, and we enjoyed just being on our own, and not in the main streets of Russell. The bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very obliging and went the extra mile to ensure that everything was okay and provided extra baked goodies. The Pacific Room's facilities allow for simple self catering - as advertised there is a microwave, toaster, small fridge, cutlery and crockery. The hosts washed our dishes, as there was no kitchen sink, and they readily provided fresh towels ( we didn't have to ask!). We also appreciated that the hosts put the effort in to recycle anything that we separated from our rubbish as recyclable.

Fantail River Lodge in Haruru provides adults-only accommodation with a garden and barbecue facilities. This guest house features free private parking, free shuttle service and free WiFi. The guest house has private entrance. Chris and Val are fantastic, friendly folk and fabulous hosts. Chris is the hostess with the mostess. The rooms, property, and setting are amazing. I admit to letting out a gasp as we arrived and drove down the driveway. The carpet in our room was lush, the bed was super comfy (loved the daisy cushions), everything was clean and spotless, and the shower was probably the best I've ever used in all of my travels. We had a private deck area with comfortable outdoor chairs, a decent sized wooden table, and a large sun umbrella - that was actually easy to simply wind up and down! We looked out onto the manicured lawn, rich foliage, and native trees. It was so lovely to see fantails and hear the chorus of cicadas. The extra touches of biscuits, chocolates - fresh milk in glass bottles in the fridge (to go along with tea, coffee etc) - beach/swimming towels (there's a local swimming hole with a small waterfall nearby), and range of toiletries, added that extra touch of class. The air con, wifi, and TV worked. The changing/wardrobe area was handy, private, and useful - even if we didn't use the lovely robes provided. There's plenty of room to hang and store clothing, and your own safe for valuables (I don't have any!). Parking and getting in and out of the property were a breeze. Chris was happy to help with anything but was never intrusive. She recommended a local place or two for dining, and they were fantastic. We were happy to simply get some fresh towels and milk halfway through our stay, with no pressure or rush to work around inconvenient, compulsory daily service of our room (nor departure as early as possible before 10 am). Everything was classy enough to feel great and make you feel special and comfy enough to be peaceful and relaxing. We loved it so much that we extended our stay. If you stay anywhere else up that way, you're mad. I'm going back ASAP, and I didn't want to leave in the first place.

Paradise on The Strand is set in Russell, 500 metres from Christ church, 400 metres from Russell Museum, and 700 metres from Flagstaff Hill. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony, free private parking and free WiFi. The property offers soundproof units and is situated 1.4 km from Long Beach. Our experience with Karen at Paradise On the Strand surpassed all expectations... and after seeing the photos and reading the reviews, our expectations were high! This was the pinnacle of excellent lodging experiences during our 7 weeks in New Zealand. Karen provided just the right amount of friendly genuine engagement, and privacy. A short walk through the bush each morning took us to Long Beach to watch the sun rise, coffee in hand (coffee cart on beach). Sunsets were spectacular! BREAKFASTS were presented each day with abundance, freshness, creativity and variety; always delicious! Home-made yoghurt, honey from Karen's son's hives, AND warm bread just out of the oven for an afternoon tea surprise! We WILL return!
