It was an old house turned into a dormitory. The bed was comfortable, but creaked every time I moved. I thought it would break. There were a few sift spots in the floor, which made me think the house is on its last legs.

I can recommend Matoi Hostel to the fullest extent! The place is so very well organised and equipped it will be a pleasure for all different kinds of travellers. I arrived by bicycle as it is close to the Tone River Cycling Road. The rooms are very tidy and the kitchen is well equipped. Handouts and prints of the upcoming festivals/attractions are lying everywhere. The owner speaks English very well. But the best thing is the big café and restaurant area, where you'll surely have a great time. I immediately made some friends there. I left a few days for Kusatsu and the owner was happy to store my luggage in a secure cabinet until I return.
