Riverside Farm was established in 1848 when Joseph Barritt, an early South Australian settler, acquired a land grant of 100 hectares on the bank of the North Para river near Lyndoch. Over the years more land was added and between 1857 and 1861 the group of buildings which form the centre of today’s farm was established. The homestead, coach house, stables and workmen’s quarters were all built in this period. The Cottage was formed from the two workmen’s rooms, with their massive cooking fireplaces, and further construction incorporated these rooms into the more extensive cottage which exists today. A secluded country cottage on a thousand acres, yet only ten minutes to the heart of the Barossa Valley and the many wineries and restaurants. Overlooking the North Para River, there are many places to walk and explore - or just sit and enjoy the stunning scenery and smell the country air.
