Welcome dear guest - to this unique handcrafted country house. I have spend 10 years together with friends and family restoring this 200 old traditional Danish farmhouse (Bindingsværkhus with Stråtag) .
The house is handpicked by the danish connoisseur booking portal “LandFolk” and Im a Superhost on Airbnb. We as a family also use our country house - this means you step into a house and garden with personality - take good care of it - respect the nature, and feel free to contribute.
The 100 m2 house and the 4000 m2 wild herb garden is situated 5km from the highway (E47) in the countryside of south Denmark on the island of Lolland. Here you find peace and quiet together with mother nature. The road outside the house ends blind at the small Harbour of Oreby. Here you find a traditional danish “Kro” with traditional danish food like Smørrebrød. The walk is 1km from the house.
Inside everything is either tailored furniture - like the Oak made masterbed or second hand findings like the butcher block in the kitchen. I have been inspired by Japanese and Danish architecture - where simplicity meets the raw material. That's why you both see the original Oak-frame in the house, as well as the old foundation stones, steel in the kitchen (Steel. Stone. Wood)
The house is kept as vapour-permeable, as it was built with lime mortar bricks - meaning the house can breathe - however I have chosen to equip the old house with modern facilities - new ytong breathable inner walls, heated floors, bathtub, wifi ect. .
This also means - that if you are the type who is looking for a dreary, drab and soulless hotel room. This is NOT the place to go. Here you find a lot of personality, atmosphere and danish “hygge” - bridging indoor with outdoor getting as close to nature as possible - without losing modern comfort.
Welcome :o)
My name is Martin, and I am your host at Huset i Oreby. My passion lies in creating meaningful experiences, and Huset i Oreby has been a project that has demanded both love and dedication over the past 10 years. When I took over the house, it was a place in need of care and attention – and today, it has been transformed into a personal retreat that balances modern comfort with respect for its history.
I have spent 10 years carefully restoring the house, focusing on preserving its authentic charm while creating a holiday home that offers both relaxation and coziness. Outside, I have designed a “rewilded” garden as my contribution to biodiversity in the area. The garden is specifically created to support local wildlife and plant life, offering a small oasis where nature is free to thrive – a space that you, as a guest, can also enjoy.
I come from a background in branding, marketing, and leadership, where I have worked with some of Denmark’s most renowned companies and agencies. This experience has taught me to value details and quality – something I bring with me as a host. Huset i Oreby is not just a place to stay; it is a holiday home with personality, inviting you to slow down, enjoy nature, and find the peace that comes with it.
As a Superhost on Airbnb and with Huset i Oreby featured on the curated quality portal LandFolk, I strive to create a warm, safe, and memorable experience for my guests. I look forward to welcoming you to Huset i Oreby and sharing this special place with you.
