Juan Dolio, a quaint village located on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic, boasts a population of around 2,500 residents (as per Wikipedia). Positioned within the province of San Pedro de Macoris, it lies approximately 30 minutes away from Santo Domingo and just a 15-minute drive from San Pedro de Macorís. The local community is renowned for its warm and friendly demeanor, making visitors feel genuinely welcomed. The village offers a plethora of dining options, with a particular recommendation to savor the delectable seafood sourced fresh from the fish markets. Navigating the roads can be an amusing and sometimes challenging experience, though certainly not impossible. Additionally, the cost of living here is notably lower than that of Europe or the United States. For those traveling from the East Coast, the village can be conveniently reached within 2-3 hours, thanks to efficient and cost-effective air travel options. Golf enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise with access to nearby courses at the Metro and Guavaberry Clubs.
When it comes to shopping, a typical Dominican grocery store named "Colmado Blue" is just a 5-minute stroll away. You'll find all your essential food items, water, beer, and household necessities here. Two more stores are situated a mere 10 minutes from your doorstep. For a more American-style supermarket experience, Zaglul, Jumbo, and Iberia supermarkets are conveniently located in San Pedro, reachable within 15 minutes by moto concho (motorbike-taxi) for 100 pesos or Guagua (minibus) for 50 pesos.
