Forget your worries in this spacious and serene space. The walnut tree is our beautiful, comfortable gite. Look out the window and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and nature this area of the Dordogne has to offer. Keep an eye out for deer, owls, red squirrels and many more. We are directly opposite the river beach of Saint Aulaye and on the edge of this historic old village. Wander up the hill to the boulangerie, shops and weekly market.
I live with my family in a very special part of France. Sharing our passion for great food, local wildlife and gardening. we have travelled around much of France, Spain, Greece and Australia. Previously running ski chalets in the alps, we now call the Dordogne home, love meeting people and sharing this special place.
Saint Aulaye is a bastide town dating back to 1288 right on the banks of the river Dronne. The river beach is simply a delight and refreshes the soul with a leisurely dip. In the summer months it is supervised in the afternoons. There is a canoe and pedalo hire for ambles down the river plus a beach bar and pizzeria. A wander up the hill brings you to the old village centre, with more restaurants, boulangerie and shops. Be sure to try all the different baguettes and sweet patisseries on your visit, yum. The village also boasts a most attractive church where you can witness the bats flying in and out at dusk. Free parking on site and all around the village.
