Blackhouse Bothies are two large individual stone clad turf roofed rooms linked to each other by a covered courtyard. Each bothy is furnished with a luxurious super king-sized bed, bed linen and towels. Tea and coffee is provided along with a kettle and a small fridge. In the bathroom you will find a spacious walk-in shower, sink and WC and is large enough to hang any wet clothing. Each bothy has a wood burning stove and is supplied with firelighters, kindling and fuel. In the courtyard that links the bothies you will find a Belfast sink and hot running water for any washing up and outdoor tables and seating is available. The cooking facilities at the bothies are unique and are also provided outdoors beneath the covered courtyard between each bothy. A portable electric hob along with plates, cutlery, utensils and cookware are all provided free of charge for each bothy. The wood burning stove in each Bothy incorporates a small oven above the fire to allow small items to be baked. A traditional BBQ is also offered with each bothy for a nightly charge. Please bear in mind it will not always be possible to cook outdoors due to the beautiful but changeable Hebridean weather.
I live on the croft and can be on hand for any questions or help. I love meeting new people and introducing them to the wonders of the Outer Hebrides. I enjoy the great outdoors, hiking and photography and love giving recommendations to our guests that fit around their holiday and interests.
The bothies are all about finding your connection with the great outdoors. Set in 5 acres of croft land on the shore of Upper Loch Seaforth in the Isle of Lewis, the uninterrupted views from the bedroom draw you out and into this prehistoric landscape. From your bedroom window you can watch for the seals and otters that make Loch Seaforth their home. Keeping your eyes on the skies you could spot oyster catchers, hen harriers and buzzards. The stars of show however, have to be the white tailed eagles that make regular appearances around the bothies. Keep your eyes open for our free range chickens too. The bothies look out on a unspoilt and wild landscape that is never the same from one moment to the next. The bothies are half way between Stornoway and Tarbert where most restaurants are located. The journey is around 18 miles in either direction. Everyday items can be obtained from the local garage in Leurbost 11 miles north.
