Company information

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property information

A bright, airy and stylish interior for up to 5 guests, open views and a lovely dog-friendly garden, make Cow Barn the perfect setting for any family holiday to the Lakes. The cottage is located at the picturesque Duddon Valley, an exceptionally beautiful and unspoilt corner of the Lake District - and the best part - there's no crowds! The River Duddon runs the length of the valley and provides magical places for picnics, paddling or wild-swimming while there is some exceptional walking amongst the crags, fells or alongside the river. The Duddon Valley really is the Lake District's best kept secret! And with 3 spacious bedrooms, modern touches and a super-stylish interior, Cow Barn is simply not to be missed.

Neighbourhood information

The gorgeous Duddon Valley is an explorer's paradise. And the best part is there are no crowds (shhh)! Walking, biking, wild swimming, it's all here. Along the banks of the scenic River Duddon are picnic and paddling spots aplenty along with some truly stunning walking and, if you're feeling brave, swimming. A drive through the Duddon Valley and over the Wrynose Pass is certainly not to be missed during your time in the area, it offers amazing views across the southern Lake District from one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the UK. Duddon Bridge is also a perfect location for exploring the Western Lakes including beautiful Eskdale and the incredible Wasdale, Wastwater and Scafell Pike. At Duddon Bridge you can explore the historic remains of Duddon Iron Furnace and from Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley visitors can visit the Memorial Bridge and stepping stones near the Newfield Inn. Seathwaite Tarn also is nearby, where fly fishing is available with a permit available from the inn. The village of Ulpha and its riverside setting is a favourite amongst locals and visitors during the warmer months. Over 300m of grassy riverside allow those who visit a chance to picnic, relax and wild swim in the various pools and shallows of the river. Nearby Broughton-in-Furness dates back to the 11th Century and features some great pubs, cafes and local shops. Broughton is situated to the south west of the Coniston Fells making it a great base to explore some of the quieter and most beautiful parts of the Lake District. Just a couple of miles from the village is the small hamlet of Broughton Mills and the highly acclaimed Blacksmith's Inn that offers great local food and beer.
