Michael was a lovely host, knowligable, and a gentleman. I had so much fun with 4 legs and a ball, thank you for that Michael, a good bit of therapy to unwind a bit. God bless brother, I wish you well.

Michael is an outstanding host, the location was perfect for my desire to access the whole of the island of Lewis and Harris, as I have family in both areas, and close enough to Stornoway for a dinner with friends.

Delightful house, one of those bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, immaculately clean, friendly host. Balallan is a great location to explore the island from, being roughly in the centre, which makes it amazing to see the seaweed...

Small room ideal for a single person. Please note that this room can only acommodate one person. Gunn Croft is a former croft located in the village of Balallan, 15 mi. from Stornoway and 21 mi. from Tarbert. An ideal place for those who want to stop midway on their journey from either Stornoway or Tarbert. Please note that no food is provided.
I am a Photographer & Tutor. Please note that we have a Border Collie dog. Her name is Ishga, she is a very friendly and obedient dog.
Balallan, Lewis. Key features: -Superb views to Eireasort Loch and the mountains of Harris. -Nearby walks, cycling routes, Kinloch Historical A straggling crofting township of around 80 crofts, which lies at the head of Loch Erisort on the road from Stornoway to Tarbert. According to D Maciver in Place-names of Lewis and Harris: Balallain: some say this name is Old Norse, but it favours more of Gaelic than Norse. The name Allan is common in Lewis. JM Macleod, Balallan thinks that the correct Gaelic spelling of Balallan should be Bailailean, not Baile Ailein and says After the Battle of Culloden (1746), the Redcoats in 1753 were still in pursuit of Jacobites. In that year, an Officer with a detachment of soldiers was sent to Lewis and Harris in search of firearms and kilts. He wrote a letter to his CO giving a report of his itinerary which mentioned that on the way to Harris he left a Corporal and four men in Kios and a Sergeant and ten men in Bail-laland. I later learned that could mean - from Gaelic and Norse "the village sloping down to the sea" and that is exactly what Bailailean is. Taken from Website Hebridean Connections
