Property information

A spacious and well appointed cottage on the edge of Grasmere, with easy walking access to Easedale and Helm Crag as well as the delights of Grasmere. Juniper Cottage is a five minute walk from the centre of Grasmere village on the road towards Easedale Tarn. This makes it an ideal choice for walkers of all ages, whether following the coast to coast or less energetic rambles, with views across Helm Crag and Silver How. Built in 1850, these cottages provided accommodation for the Wilsons, an extended family of master carpenters and joiners. The main entrance opens onto the enclosed front garden and a side entrance from the yard, accessed from either the rear where there is parking for one vehicle or from a gate at the side of the front garden. Juniper has a spacious living room and kitchen-dining room with a large dining table and chairs. There are two large double bedrooms on the first floor, a twin room and family bathroom. A further shower room is downstairs. To the rear of Juniper is an open field with a children’s playground which you can access from the lane further along Easedale Road. Juniper Cottage is well maintained and the owners carry out regular refurbishment of the property. This property is pet friendly. However, it only accepts one small dog. This property is next door to Juniper Hayloft, which sleeps 2, and can be booked together for groups of up to 6-8 with the benefit of separate space. Please note that there is only one allocated space behind Juniper Cottage. There is parking for one additional vehicle in the guest house car park opposite the cottage. Please confirm arrangements with our office. An EV Charger is available – instructions for accessing this are in the cottage and payment is made directly to the owners.

Neighbourhood information

Grasmere is famous for being home to William Wordsworth. He once described it as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”. The Wordsworth Cottage and museum are a short stroll from the cottage and well worth a visit. Today, the town is a bustling hive of activity and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Lake District. It is home to the famous Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread. Its traditional bakery and quaint shop shouldn’t be missed. Grasmere has several art galleries, gift shops, cafes, pubs, a selection of outdoor equipment retailers and a Co-op convenience store. The bustling popular town of Ambleside is a short five mile drive away or a pleasant walk through the woods behind the cottage. The small town of Keswick with its wide range of shops, quaint alleyways and busy market square is approximately thirteen miles away and can also be accessed by bus. For those who wish to explore further afield, the buses are frequent connecting guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
