Neighbourhood information

The cottage is within a 5-minute stroll brings you to the bustling village green. For a small Dales village there is a great collection of eateries including three pubs serving traditional grub with a fine selection of quality real ales, great wine menus and an array of gins! (one pub currently shut). Fine dining can be found at the Burgoyne, fabulous Brymor ice cream can be yummed up at the ice cream parlour, excellent coffee, cakes, sandwiches and much more at the Copper Kettle Café. There are two bakeries including the award winning Two Dales Bakery which incidentally also offers take away sour dough pizza, to die for, on a Thursday night. Friday night the Ramsey’s mobile fish and chip van graces Reeth between 4 – 6pm for a hearty chippy tea! Reeth is also home to the Dales Centre, home of the artisan Two Dales Bakery mentioned above but also: Swaledale Cheese, Swale Dale Botanical, Graculas Sculptures, Nutmeg and the Threshing Barn. Surrounding the green you will also find Scenic View (photography gallery), The Gift Shop (newspapers, takeaway refreshments, sweets and so much more), The Fleece (arts and crafts created by an assortment of local Dales Artists), Dragon Jewellery, The Post Office with corner shop (amazingly well stocked with essentials) and of course the Swaledale Museum. A mile down the road or a fabulous 3-mile circular walk over the Swing Bridge and along the River Swale is Fremington and Grinton, home to the buzzing Dales Bike Centre and Cakery, well known, not only for everything bikes, but, for their friendly welcome, extensive cake menu and generous portions! You’ll also, no doubt, want to stop for a quick refreshment at The Bridge Inn, a lovely country pub that sits in the shadows of St Andrew’s Church, formally known as the Cathedral of the Dales in days gone by. What’s more, take a moment to explore the Grinton Book Exchange, a fantastic local asset run by lovely volunteers.
