Escape for a luxury cottage break to this stunning self-catering holiday cottage in one of Devon's prettiest thatched villages, set within the wildly romantic beauty of Dartmoor National Park. Offering wall-to-wall luxury, this stylish thatched Grade II-listed Dartmoor holiday rental has a log-burning stove, slipper bath for two and a fabulous village gastropub. Sublime Dartmoor views, a sunny walled rose garden and interiors that have been featured in several design and travel magazines mean this will be a Devon holiday to write home about.
Our village, North Bovey, has a traditional oak-shaded green surrounded by treacle-tinted thatched houses, a medieval church, ancient stepping stones spanning a cool, fresh river, and a traditional wobbly-walled 13th century thatched pub, the Ring of Bells, which is famed for its delicious food. The village is secluded and incredibly peaceful; the only thing you'll hear is birdsong, distant church bells and the occasional clip-clopping of hooves from passing horses. There are lots of restaurants nearby too, including Bovey Castle, the charming thatched Cleave pub in Lustleigh, and lovely gastropub The Horse, in Moretonhampstead and Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park, which is a 15 minute drive away. Day passes to use the spa at nearby Bovey Castle are thirty pounds per person per day.
Take a road trip across Dartmoor and you'll enter a world of open moors, wild wilderness, lush forests and craggy peaks. You’ll see tiny thatched hamlets that have been lost in time, Stone-Age hut circles, grand stately homes, wooded gorges and fairytale castles, with wild ponies roaming the hills and birds of prey wheeling in the skies above. Keen walkers will love all the pretty woodland, riverside and moorland walks, and shouldn’t miss a hike along the famous South West Coastal Path. Adventure-seekers are well catered for too, with options that include wild swimming, kayaking, clay pigeon shooting, climbing and horse-riding. For beach lovers, Devon's sugar-white sandy coves are a 50-minute drive, and don’t miss the pretty, pastel-hued sailing towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe, along with beautiful fishing villages and windswept islands. A break at our luxury Devon cottage means enjoying simple and wholesome pleasures: lashings of fresh country air, heady strolls on heather-topped moors, local fodder in rustic country pubs, big starry skies and lazy evenings curled up in front of the fire. We look forward to welcoming you.
