Neighbourhood information
Walcot Hall is an award-winning luxury event venue in rural north Lincolnshire showcasing stunning landscaped formal gardens and 27 acres of surrounding parkland on the edge of the hamlet of Alkborough. The village has Saxon origins, and the church features a font that dates back to Norman times. In a superb natural setting, where the rivers Trent and Ouse join to form the Humber, Alkborough Flats is an interesting anti-flood project that has created an ideal location for bird watching and leisurely walks. There are miles of quiet lanes ideal for exploring this undiscovered area by bike. The Paddocks Tea Room makes an excellent destination. The last existing Julian's Bower (a turf maze) can also be seen in Alkborough.
Local places to eat include, Riverside Restaurant in Burton Stather, The George Inn in Winterton, and Lincolnshire's only Michelin Star Restaurant, Winteringham Fields in Winteringham.
The Ferry House Inn sits on the river upstream at Burton Upon Stather, and Normanby Hall Country Park is also well worth a visit for golf, Go Ape, farming museum, cafe and beautiful grounds. Winteron Show Ground holds exciting events throughout the year including the popular and family-friendly Agricultural Show in the summer. Also during the summer months, you can pick your own strawberries at Herring Produce.
Hiding on the south bank of the River Ouse where the waterway widens into the Humber Estuary, you’ll find RSPB Blacktoft Sands. Reachable by car, this East Yorkshire nature reserve is a watery wonderland that is visited by an array of wildfowl and waders. If you like to fish then head to nearby Brick Ponds.
Weighton Lock and Horkstow Suspension Bridge are two historic landmarks worth visiting for walking or cycling.
Walcot Hall is within easy reach of Scunthorpe and Hull where there are lots of eateries, entertainment and amenities to choose from.
