The host was very friendly, leaving us free range eggs from their chickens, milk bread and butter, all locally sourced. The place is a little piece of heaven, we will certainly use it time and time again.

We invite you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and create your own memories around the fire pit with our delightful little off grid solar sun powered shepherd hut. With usb ports and enough power for small gadgets. ( sadly not things like hairdryers ) Well situated in a beautiful Wild Flower meadow with stunning uninterrupted, panoramic views, sunsets & starry skies in the Forest of Dean. Get back to nature and enjoy a gateway to the countryside in your own home away from home lovingly nestled into our 6 acre smallholding in the luscious Forest of Dean. Whether it be exploring the acres of forest or the beautiful countryside, mountain biking with your best buddy or a romantic getaway under the stars, we welcome you to experience the very essence of our glorious location and its surrounding attractions. The off-grid, timber-clad shepherd’s hut is as quaint as its surroundings, with white-washed and pale duck-egg walls, a little log burner and a tiny kitchenette. It sleeps two! There’s a fire pit, too, alongside outdoor seating and your own facilities hut with a COMPOST LOO and a gas hot water shower. Owner Rachael's daughter is likely to leave you some farm-fresh eggs from her happy little hens with a lovely little hamper of essentials to start off your peaceful stay. For those with a love of wild water swimming, mountain biking, fishing and many more out door activities all on your door step. It’s surrounded by fields which are grazed by a small herd of what have been dubbed “the world’s cutest sheep” (valais black nose, if you’re wondering) A wonderful selection of pubs/tea rooms within walking distance who serve some delicious meals.
We live on a small holding with ponies, sheep, chickens and ducks :) My little girl Hattie collects the eggs for you to enjoy in your welcome hamper.
Alvington has little a little garage selling bread milk etc or you can travel to the nearby town of Lydney or Chepstow for most services beyond those served by the local petrol station, which acts as the village shop. There are three public houses in Alvington: The Blacksmith's Arms; The Globe Inn (which reopened in November 2014); and The Swan Inn. The Globe Inn dates back to around 1805. The Blacksmith's Arms dates back the late nineteenth-century in a building that was formerly a smithy (hence the pub's current name). The Swan Inn (now the Swan House Tea Rooms) lies on the border of Alvington and neighbouring Woolaston (also classed as Colne Valley), and once contained a mill in its early days. Alvington lies on the A48 road, which runs from Chepstow in Monmouthshire, Wales, to Gloucester, England.[9] The nearest railway stations can also be found in Lydney (on local trains from Gloucester) and Chepstow on more regular national routes. The Stagecoach West number 72 bus serves the village on its Chepstow to Cinderford route from Mondays to Saturdays
