Casa Castanea – A Family Project with Heart Casa Castanea is a personal family project full of heart. We are a German couple with two children and an elderly Chihuahua-Pekingese mix, living between Lake Constance in Germany and Sicily. When we discovered this historic home in the centre of Trecastagni, it was love at first sight – its charm, vaulted ceilings and prime location on the piazza won us over instantly. Casa Castanea is our only property, and we care for it personally – with attention to detail and the desire to offer guests a place to feel truly at home. We speak fluent German and English, but are still learning Italian – and we always do our best to ensure a smooth and pleasant stay.

Property information

Mount Etna Views – 100 m² of Comfort and Charm Casa Castanea is situated on the second floor of an 18th-century manor house, right on the central piazza in the heart of Trecastagni. The spacious flat offers 100 m² of living space, including two bedrooms (each with a private bathroom), a cosy dining room, a compact kitchen, and two balconies with views of Mount Etna and village life. Original vaulted ceilings, high windows and plenty of natural light lend the space a unique character. Perfect for 4 guests (up to 6 for shorter stays). Fast Wi-Fi is available. Please note: Access is via an outdoor spiral staircase – the property is not wheelchair accessible. Pets are not allowed. Fun fact: The piazza in front of the house was once the private vineyard of the estate – today’s wine was once grown just steps away.

Casa Castanea is located in the heart of Trecastagni, a charming village on the slopes of Mount Etna. Thanks to its elevated position, the town enjoys fresh air and splendid views of the volcano. Just outside the door: cafés, delicatessens, a wine shop, restaurants and a supermarket. Most cafés stay open late – perfect for a nightcap or a late snack. Trecastagni is the ideal base for exploring eastern Sicily: Mount Etna is a 10-minute drive away, Catania about 20 minutes, and the airport around 30 minutes. Taormina, Naxos, Noto and Syracuse are all within easy reach. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the many Etna trails, while nature lovers can explore chestnut forests and lava landscapes. On Thursdays, the local market offers fresh produce and handmade goods. Trecastagni is not a tourist hub, but a true Sicilian village – full of friendly locals, traditions and relaxed charm. A hire car is recommended. Free parking is available just behind the house.
