The house is named after the statue in the small house called "Jizo" (地蔵) just beside our lovely Japanese garden. Our house is a good mix between a traditional Japanese design with tatami floor (straw mats), all decorations, Futon (Japanese bed on the tatami floor) and a little twist of western style with sofas in the living rooms, one western style bedroom with 2 beds and a kitchen with table and seats.
We, Mari & Max, are a Japanese-French couple married and living in Japan in happiness and harmony. We are both passionated by travelling, outdoor activities, cooking good homemade food and simply enjoying our free time out in Kyoto, strolling along the river with a picnic or hiking in the mountains nearby. As we also love learning languages (French for Mari and German & Spanish for Max), and love meeting people, we've had the idea of offering our Jizo House to the travellers,
A classic and charming Japanese residential neighbourhood built on the side of hill. A very safe and friendly area! Little mom & pop stores on the road leading up to the house include a bakery, green grocer, liquor store, two small restaurants, home supply stores, hiking station mini-store, and vending machines. 3 grocery stores can be found on the main road about a 5 minute walk south of the bus stop. There are also 6 local restaurants on the main road close to the bus stop. **For nature lovers we have access to 2 major hiking trails, one of them just 5 minutes away! (The Mt. Kiyomizu trail)
