This is a renovated, traditional Japanese machiya (private holiday home) that was first built almost 100 years ago. It has also long served as a ‘Nishijin’ kimono textile factory, where craftsmen used traditional wooden weaving looms to create kimono fabrics, which are still displayed in the 1F. If you'd like a free tour of the Nishijin-ori wooden looms & factory area, please send us a message! This machiya house preserves its traditional Kyoto-style charm with its high ceilings, wooden beams, and tatami rooms. The 1F includes a tatami room, renovated bathroom with a wooden bath, and a washing machine with dryer function. Upstairs is another tatami room, a modern kitchen, additional shower and toilet, and a dining room with table and chairs.
We are Nishijin Isa! We're located in the historical area of Kyoto city, where kimono textile has been handwoven by craftsmen for centuries. As our entire team are Kyoto locals, we'll be able to share with you the authentic side of Kyoto city & our favorite places to dine and explore. We look forward to welcoming you soon!
Located in Kyoto City’s historical ‘Nishijin’ district, an area famous for its traditional kimono textile production. ‘Nishjin’ textile’s history dates back to the Heian Period. It’s revered in Japan for its unique & elegant patterns, which are all intricately hand-woven by Kyoto craftsmen. The Neighborhood: When you stay at this traditional Japanese house, you’ll have easy access to the Golden Pavilion, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, and more. This machiya holiday house is a short walk from local supermarkets, several convenience stores, locally-loved restaurants, and bus stops.
