The Pickled Pigeon
A pre 1881 surveyor's cottage, fully renovated and with quality facilities and décor. The Pickled Pigeon Cottage is set in a beautiful cottage garden which attracts tuis, kereru (wood pigeon), bellbirds, song thrush and blackbirds. It even has a resident hedgehog family in the back garden. So if it's peace and tranquillity you are after, and to be within walking distance of the historic township of Lawrence, then this won't disappoint.
Penny and Neen came to NZ in 2014 after working for 20+ years in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to this stint in the Middle East, they had spent most of their adult lives living and working overseas. A lot of the furnishings in the cottage reflect their travel lifestyle and sit comfortably alongside early NZ settlor knickknacks. More information can be found on the Pickled Pigeon website.
Lawrence was the site of the first commercial gold rush in New Zealand in the 1860s. It has a fascinating history which is detailed at the Tuapeka Museum in the main street and visitors can also wander around Gabriels Gully and Blue Spur Township, where it all happened. The Clutha Cycle Trail now goes through the township and there are many quality walking tracks and one of the oldest golf courses in NZ.
