The location was great, near the coast, near the southern most point and near town. It was a family friendly bike ride to all of the things we wanted to see and do. The hosts were lovely and the place was well equipped for a self-service booking.

Our property was built in 1948 and has always been a bed and breakfast. The previous owners redesigned and improved the building lovingly by themselves, using local sandstone and it reflects a homely cottage image, blending in with the natural nature of the village. They managed to incorporate the character of the surrounding area and gave the property a warm beach cottage feel. They cladded the walls with limestone sourced in the area and created a garden intended to encourage the abundant birdlife in the area to become frequent visitors. We have now added a second-hand bookshop to the building which has proved to be extremely popular with both locals and visitors, especially on rainy or windy days when curling up in bed with a good book is the logical thing to do. One of our favourite features is our fish pond which welcomes guests to our property. Agulhas is a quiet and tranquil village and the sound of the trickling fountain only enhances the feeling of relaxation. We believe Beachcombers to be an oasis for those looking to find respite from the busy pace of everyday life.
Both of us have worked in the hospitality industry for most of our lives. We owned and rented two hotels, one of which was in Namibia and the other in Porterville in the Swartland, where we were well known and where we operated a Restaurant in the hotel which was renowned for its attractive, tasty and affordable cuisine. After that we became the Management pair at the Parow Golf Club where we spent the last 17 years of our working lives before retiring to Agulhas. I was the Catering Manageress and my husband, John,. the General Manger. We have managed to make the Beachcombers B&B a home from home experience, personally attending to, and preparing breakfast every morning. With our wealth of hospitality experience we welcome and interface with our guests on a daily basis, providing them with an insight into the area and surrounds, especially the history of the town. John and his family bought their first holiday home here in 1958, since which year he has spent countless holidays and weekends in the village. John is an avid reader and has opened a marvelous second-hand bookshop where he gives knowledge and insight on writers and books. We would love to have you as our guests.
Agulhas is the southernmost town in Africa. Flanked by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east, makes it the official place where the two oceans meet and it boasts rich marine, bird as well as botanical life. Some points of interest in the area include: Whale watching in season (July-November) Renowned for birdwatching 3 tidal pools within walking distance - with lovely picnic areas. The second oldest working lighthouse in South Africa (built in 1848) Struisbaai sports the longest natural beach in the Southern Hemisphere which stretches for a total of fourteen kilometres. Fishing from the beach or charter boats from Struisbaai's working harbour. Our favourite - feeding the stingrays at Struisbaai harbour. Hiking nature trails through Agulhas National Park. We have spotted a Duiker antelope right outside the B&B, angulate tortoises are frequent visitors and we have a colony of weaver birds living on site. There is a resident Mongoose pair living near the B&B and there are Caracal Lynx in the area if you are lucky enough to spot one. Agulhas is definitely ideal for nature lovers as well as sportsmen and an absolute must for bird watchers.
