I booked a trip here with my family, without knowing it is Shinjukus red-light district. To be honest, it wasn't that bad--you see touts on the street and lots of hosts/hostesses dressed up as boy band members or maids, after a certian time of night, and they're quite proloific in Kabuki-cho, but they never engaged us, nor we them. Hot tip: don't engage them or go into any bars they recommend unless you want $1000 bills on your credit card. My impression is that Tokyo's seedier places are relatively tame in comparison to other countries seedier areas. If anything, the whole place became like a unique spectacle at night for us Europeans. Seeing this side of Japanese culture purely as an observer was intruiging. I wouldn't go around at night with younger teenagers though, as that might feel innapropriate. Older teenagers over 17 will be fine with parents though. I didn't get chance to visit Golden Gai, because the 10-15 foreign touts circling the entrance way put my wife off going in.

Definitely an interesting area for nightlife in Tokyo.

Definitely an interesting area for nightlife in Tokyo. Once you've navigated Shinjuku station, you'll find yourself having to navigate the streets and alleys of Kabukicho. If you want a place to drink, hit up Golden-gai, but be prepared to wait for a seat at the bar or to pay a service charge.

Golden Gai is an eclectic small enclave that houses many cool little bars. Don't be afraid, there is a basic bar charge ranging from 500 yen, its your entrance charge. Drinks are priced with some menu items. My favorite is a photography centric bar called Kodoji. Hands down a very cool place to walk around and learn about japanese culture. The staff was very helpful in tracking down our forwarded luggage. The rooms were very clean, Just a little small. The location is very central and easy to access via the metro. It is very close to the Kabukicho tower airport bus (3 min walk) which is great if you are flying into or out of Tokyo and taking the limousine bus with a lot of luggage.

The location was extremely convenient and the apartment itself was very clean. Despite bing near Golden Gai and in Kabukicho, I felt very safe and calm. It was also very quite in the home and didnt hear too much from outside or inside the apartment complex. The bath was nice and A/C blew quite cool after letting it warm up for a little bit. Felt truly like another home.

We loved the location of the property — close to train station and to food, drinks, and kabukicho/ktown life. Check in was very easy despite the language barrier. They use a machine that looks like an ATM to check you in and out. There are baskets in the lobby with complementary toiletries and teas for you to grab on the go. The actual room was small, but expected for Japan, and very clean.

Excellent location. The onsen in the hotel had great waterjets. There are numerous APA hotels in this neighborhood. Be sure you are booking APA Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho TOWER. Note that the room is small, maybe 8' x 10', most hotel rooms in this area are this small. Check room dimensions and convert meters into square feet. The bed takes up majority of room. Has a small desk and chair.

This was honestly better than my Marriott stay following this. The in room laundry and pants presser was great, the breakfast was good, and the staff spoke English well. The location is nearby Kabukicho, but you have to willingly walk a bit to get there. This is a very quiet location.
