Known as the largest complex of the Ottoman Empire, this mosque was built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror just a decade after the conquest of Istanbul. Situated on one of Istanbul's seven hills, it features a vast complex including a medrese, library, hospital, bath, and caravanserai. Architecturally, Fatih Mosque is a valuable link in the evolution of Turkish imperial mosques and bears no traces of Byzantine art. Its courtyard features a remarkable fountain and a sundial, attributed to the astronomer Ali Kuşçu, which captivate visitors. The mosque's tombs are also significant, housing the resting place of Sultan Mehmed II. Beyond its historical and cultural significance, the mosque continues to be the heart of Fatih, one of Istanbul's most conservative districts.
