the mall had maybe two shops and all the others had closed down, was quite disappointing. there are still a few shops in and around union square, but few and far between. didn't have the cool vibe it used to have. quite a few people high on drugs or sleeping in the streets - no issues, but definitely has a bit of an edge to it.

Sadly Union Squares gone so downhill, tbh it couldn't get much worse. So many empty shops. This wasn't for first trip to San Francisco, regrettably it will be our last. The change in the last six years is massive. We didn't feel particularly safe there, which wasn't helped by all the signs warning you. Our first night there must have been 100-150 motorbikes and Quads all racing down the Main Street, with loads of the bikes pulling wheelies, this wasn't an official organised event simply a load of bikers took it upon themselves. There was one police car with its lights flashing but nobody taking an ounce of notice.

Close to a lot of nice cafes and shops.

Close to a lot of nice cafes and shops. The staff in the subway are pretty touchy, and you have to get the clipper card to use public transport. The area going away from the wharf is quite seedy, like an open-air opium den with drug users injecting in public. Some of the cafes included taxes of ~$30USD, bringing out breakfast for 2 to $85. Better to ask ahead. Expensive place overall.

This is an AMAZING price/quality hotel. The location is unbeatable, 1 minute walk to Union Square. The room size is perfect and comfortable. They have complementary coffee and tea, apples, water and cookies all day, which solves the fact that there is no breakfast, but it’s more than enough. Loved it, recommend it and I’ll definitely reuse if I’m ever in San Francisco.

The only thing I liked was the convenient location of the hotel. It is a walking distance to the Union Square, where lots of restaurants, shops and including the Cuty Tour buses.

Pros: free parking, microwave and mini fridge in the room Cons: very poor breakfast (some fruit will be nice) only 6 chairs for an entire hotel, the room was very dark, they don't clean the room daily (only the towels) the location is close to union square but a lot of homeless, drugs...I will recommend another location. It was very expensive for the quality, more than 100$ a night when it should be around 60$ max

Very comfortable in general, really silent despite noisy neighborhood, employees were all very nice. Has a peculiar style, a bit like a old hotel, but everything is new and clean (carpets are a little stained, though). Quite close to Union Square and to Chinatown. Having a water fountain in the lobby was quite convenient.

Great central location, right by Union Square. Rooms were spacious and comfortable with all the amenities you would expect from a hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice complimentary coffee to take away in the morning. Great place to use as a base for exploring the city.

The hotel location is quite good. It's a 5-minute walk away from Powell Station. Nearby the Union Square. Maybe, this is the traditional hotel. However, the room was kept clear.

The hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet. It is right beside the gates to Chinatown and in walking distance of Union Square and a BART station. One of the Hop on Hop off bus ride stops is by the hotel which was handy. The staff were ok. Not super welcoming but they were efficient. We will be staying there again at the end of our visit to the States.

There are fun boutiques in every district. Do the main shopping areas such as union square for brand names but venture around the city to find the fun boutiques and little restaurants that really make your stay memorable

Venture outside the most touristy areas like Pier 39 and Union Square - go to Hayes Valley, Pacific Heights, Russian Hill, Cow Hollow, the Marina. It's much less crowded and you can even forget you're in the city
