The property is beautiful and the family that runs the lodge is amazing. I am so glad I stayed here. The accommodations are simple and one with nature. This is the type of place you stay when you are interested in a quiet hideaway that prioritizes nature, friendliness, great food, and Costa Rican hospitality. Giovanni is so helpful and warm, his family too, and they have opened up their life to share with travellers and do everything possible to ensure you have a fun trip. He even watches for flat tires and after spying the culprit, a screw, grabbed the air compressor so I could make my way to the station for a repair. Absolutely the best host I have ever stayed with. And the animals!! Extra bonus- it's a slice of heaven spying what is hanging around in the trees and ponds while eating a big breakfast. Additionally he can guide you to less touristy areas that are better than the hotel tours and much cheaper. I can hardly wait to return!

What makes Birds and Breakfast Very Special are its owners Marcela and Fabio. They treated us like loving family. I cannot say enough about their graciousness and hospitality. They went totally above and beyond our wildest expectations. They fully recognized that we two Floridians (me at 83 & my SO at 71) were not physically up to hiking those steep trails so they made up for it with other activities that we could comfortably handle. While birds are their focus and we saw/photographed many we also saw sloths and various animals and got to sample their local food extensively.

Over the past decade the hosts at Cecropia Ecolodge have restored rainforest to to what was primarily grazing land. They have taken particular care to provide habitat for native wildlife. Their success of their efforts was evident in the number of birds and amphibians I saw during my short stay, The cabins are pleasant with private baths and good beds. WiFi was good in the common areas with planned improvement for the cabins. The included breakfast was excellent and dinner was available at a very reasonable price. The hosts, Jay and Nohelia, are very friendly and informative. I arrived during the rainy season and surprised by the lack of mosquitos. The road leading to Cecropia is 3.5 Km long and unpaved but was in good repair and I had no problem negotiating it in a 2 wheel drive compact car.

This place was absolutely wonderful! My fiancee booked a week here in one of the casitas and it was our first time in Costa Rica. It lived up to all of our expectations and we were hugely pleased with our stay. The staff was absolutely lovely and very accommodating when we thought we were going to have a late check-in. We loved the fact that it was a working farm and had some lovely walks around the property including the Cabalonga trail, spotting sloths by the pool, and having leisurely breakfasts watching the birds. The location is also nicely situated, tucked away in the jungle giving a remote feel, while also being a short drive from La Fortuna. We would absolutely go back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a jungle lodge stay that doesn't feel touristy or like a resort.

Gianni and his team of staff are so friendly. Amazing helpful and nothing was too much trouble, even providing us a packed lunch for one of our tours. Breakfast and evening were delicious. A mini oasis of quiet & calm.
