Boasting a garden and views of mountain, Pearl's Homestay Matale is a recently renovated holiday home situated in Matale, 27 km from Kandy City Center Shopping Mall. When my driver edged up the narrow-inclined driveway of this very modern home, I didn’t know what to expect. But Pearle and her husband Ranjan greeted me with broad smiles and open arms. After they had retired, they built this sophisticated home on their family’s property. Since the terrain of Matale is mostly mountainous, their home is perched up high on a small hill, allowing a beautiful view of the city from their wide terrace. Communication was swift and efficient as their daughter fielded email questions from the UK. English was spoken perfectly by all members of the family, so no worries for any miscommunication. I had arrived in the late afternoon and Pearle offered me tea. Ranjan returned with some short eats and we sat around chatting. The conversation was easy and I felt like I was visiting good friends for the afternoon. My room was located just off their living room with an adjacent bathroom with contemporary fixtures – it felt like I was in a fancy hotel! The stylish room with extremely high ceilings was spacious and tastefully decorated with an enormous mosquito net tied with ribbons around the large four poster bed. There is a portable air conditioner/fan which was not really needed as the evenings are usually cool and temperate. Breakfast was a luxurious feast with red rice string hoppers, potato curry, dal, green gram and a delicious, spicy chicken curry. Watermelon, pineapple, and sweet juicy papaya from their garden rounded out the meal. After retirement, Pearle turned her interests to cooking and she is certainly an accomplished cook! My only regret was staying only one night and will certainly come back for a longer visit!

Breakfast was equally delightful, served in an elegant dining room where every detail, down to the cutlery, reflected thoughtful sophistication. A flawless experience from start to finish — truly an outstanding hotel that exceeds every expectation.

Among the facilities at this property are room service and a 24-hour front desk, along with free WiFi throughout the property. Certain units at the property feature a balcony with a mountain view. This was one the best hotels i stayed in my time in Sri Lanka. The staff was great and the owner even more so. I did a tour with him through the knuckle forest reserve and it was absolutely beautiful. He also knew a great deal about the places we went to and the local community. The hotel was clean, had a good vibe and the vieuw from my room was amazing. 2 other rooms where being built and he had plans to put in a pool. If this place gets known, its going to be packed with tourist. I would highly recommend this place and if i ever go to Sri Lanka again, this hotel is going to be at the top of my list.

An incredible place where you can sleep in luxury in the middle of the Sri Lankan jungle. The staff is wonderful and friendly, food was excellent. Everything's organic and fresh and homemade. So tasty!!! They their own cardamom ice cream, cardamom grows outside your room, as well as lemongrass and mini-guavas. Waking up to the breathtaking views of the Sri Lankan mountains, Going to sleep with the noises of the wet jungle- everything is an adventure in this place. (Watch out for bloodsucking leeches!) I did a half day trek up the knuckles range with their guide, thanks to him I was lucky to spot some leaf nose lizards. What a beautiful creature. Highly recommend this place.

This place is incredible and I would highly recommend anyone to come and sample the life here. The scenery is spectacular and you will get to spend time with the amazing Niro, Umanga and their family. Delicious home cooked food is on offer and you're just a few minutes walk from the village and it's friendly inhabitants.

The accommodation offers airport transfers, while a car rental service is also available. Book this place when you wish to see many things in and around Kandy! The owners went the extra mile to make me super happy. He is a safe driver who showed me many places per day in his comfortable car and she cooked fantastic meals for me with fresh herbs and spices out of their own ‘jungle’. They are a lovely and honest family, the best hosts during my world-travel :-) Also: the place is a gem in the mountains, beautiful decorated and with a clean pool. I felt really at home here.

The hotel owner arranged a delightful village tour for us, allowing us to meet local villagers and engage with their community. They also kindly organized a complimentary lunch for us (which we gladly paid for), adding to the authentic experience. The journey to the villa involved a scenic mountain river crossing, where we enjoyed a cool bath in the evening — a refreshing highlight. In the evening, the caretaker, Diviya, thoughtfully arranged a small campfire and BBQ dinner, creating a cozy and memorable atmosphere. Our rooms were spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a perfect base to relax and connect with nature. If you're looking to immerse yourself in the serenity of nature, I highly recommend Riverston Nature Villa. It’s the ideal place for anyone seeking peace, adventure, and authentic local experiences in the Knuckles region.
