I have visited Konstanz frequently some time ago, and it was a great pleasure to see it had not changed much after 15 years. Very friendly quaint town right across from the Swiss border, with great outdoors, parks, superb Lake Konstanz views and very friendly locals. It is an excellent place to base a visit to other towns and sites on Lake Constance whether by ferry, train or bus (and we did all three). Meersburg is one of our favorite towns. It has everything: Medival castle, a fantastic boardwalk on the lake, apple orchards, winyards with a winery, excellent restaurants & bars, boating marina, ferry to other parts of the lake, the list goes on. We visited friends here and enjoyed the views over the lake and wandering around the waterfront. The city is known for the obvious focus of boating, bathing, and relaxing, but we also found a nice, downtown with historical charm. A little off the beaten track, but plenty to do.
A little off the beaten track, but plenty to do. Boating, swimming, rent bikes and visit the towns nearby. Hop on the bus (very simple to use and covered by the hotel tourist card) to visit nearby towns, get to the train station, or the ferry station. We were able to visit Lindau-Insel on a day trip by bus/train, spend 5-6 hours there, and still made it back in time for dinner and watching the sunset over the lake. The heart of the village is mainly pedestrian/cycles only. There are many good restaurants to choose from. You can rent motor boats to take out on the lake, or swim in the crystal clear water from the many “beaches”.
