- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 222 reviewsThis hotel is quaint and magical, with splendid views of the Wolfgangsee and surrounding mountains along the lakeside path, which you can walk almost the entire distance to St. Gilgen if you like. If you prefer, the ferry stops right next to the hotel. Staff was exceptional and offered ferry tickets at reception. I won't ruin the surprise, but check-out was a nice experience as well. I did not engage in much hiking, but guests receive literature at check-in about the myriad trails of different lengths and levels of challenge, accessible from right at the hotel. I have not been to Hallstatt, but the Wolfgangsee area seems like an excellent alternative without quite as many tourists (but still a lot). Don't forget to take the sielbahn to the Zwölferhorn for stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, including Zugspitze. St. Gilgen in general is a nice, quaint town with upscale shopping as well as touristy kitch. This stay was well worth the price in my opinion, as it was an unforgettable experience filled with glorious natural beauty and wonderful, luxurious Austrian hospitality.Guest review byBrian PhillipsUnited States
- From $266.63 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 469 reviewsFirst of all the room was very comfortable - it was big and with great spot to sit next to the window and look at the mountains and lake (room 46). The room and the facilities are very clean and the all staff both at the lobby and the restaurant are very friendly and eager to help and let you feel you are welcome. We used the gym which is very modern and techie - we liked that very much. The breakfast is amazing as it is very rich with a lot of verity - everything is so fresh. We also had two dinners at the hotel's restaurant and it was all very fresh and well cooked comparing to other restaurants in the area (which are good as well). The waiter was amazing - he provided great recommendations and was very friendly. I will be happy to go back and stay in this place for sure (and hopefully get the same room) !!!!!Guest review byAmitIsrael

A more beautiful peaceful vacation could not be imagined.
A more beautiful peaceful vacation could not be imagined. The mountains are breathtaking. The quietness speaks to you, and I left feeling more peaceful than I have in years. We were there in May, and I understand the tourist scene in June and July is a bit busier. There is a lot to do in the village besides gazing at the scenery. Delicious eats, friendly hosts, charming souvenir shops and the ferry that goes up and down the St Wolfgangsee are some of the delights.Guest review byHenriettaUnited States - 8.0

Sankt Gilgen was lovely - picture postcard beautiful with plenty to do to keep us busy (lake and mountains walks, boat rides, trains, cable cars). Visiting in September, we found it very quiet at night with very few restaurants open, particularly on a Monday and Tuesday. Finding somewhere to eat on spec is difficult and we would strongly recommend pre-booking if you want to eat out.Guest review byClaireUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Walk around the Bürglstein is very nice and calming.
Walk around the Bürglstein is very nice and calming. City itself is much calmer than the other ones (St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang), but still there is everything what would you need, water fun, grocery store, ice cream stand.Guest review byJarda RysCzech Republic - 8.0
We stayed in Abersee close to the port (Gschwendt).
We stayed in Abersee close to the port (Gschwendt). This area is generally quiet particularly at night as it is sparsely populated, with pastures, farms, and indeed guesthouses. There is a public beach excellent for swimming (with paid access, but included in some accommodation; it is grass, pebbles, wooden walkway and stairs to get to water more comfortably). One can also walk along the lake, cycle, or walk further for hiking in the hills. For shopping, sightseeing, restaurants, one needs to take a short drive to St. Gilgen or Strobl.Guest review byTomasCzech Republic - 10.0
I love this little town.
I love this little town. It is a great location for exploring other areas, but the town itself is beautiful. We got to see them raise the May Pole and have a bit of a festival with dancing, music, and great food and drinks!Guest review byMichaelUnited States - 10.0
A perfect holiday location.
A perfect holiday location. The village has lots of character, a weekly market, cable car, mountain walks, swimming in very clear lake, and relyable bus service to wider surroundings and beautiful baroque city of Salzburg.Guest review byMariettaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely old city center with decorated buildings, promenade on a lake shore, travel on a ship on a lake, possibility to sunbath and swim in clear blue water, mountain trails, cable car and old trains to summit.Guest review byOndrejCzech Republic - 10.0

The timing of our visit (January 7th to 12th) wasn't ideal, as many shops and restaurants were closed during this period. However, for nature enthusiasts Sankt Gilgen was a dream come true! The snow-covered Apls created a magical winter wonderland, offering breathtaking views and landscapes. We had easy access to nearby attractions that are definitely worth exploring, making it a fantastic destination for those who appreciate tranquility and the beauty of nature.Guest review byVasilianaGreece
