Location is excellent - in the center of the village, next to a supermarket, a hiking gear store (in case you're missing anything during your hike) and the bus stop to Hintersee lake. We took the bus from the lake to the hotel in the afternoon, and again in the morning. The bus is free (Wanderbus). The complementary afternoon "snack" at the hotel was surprising - it includes coffee, tea, beer, wine and a full dinner (there was potato's and meat, salads, fruit, cake). A real treat which we enjoyed while sitting on the balcony overlooking the magnificent view. In the summer on Thursday evenings there is a local festival 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Perhaps the staff should have notified us, but we just followed the music and found it.Guest review byLihiIsrael

Ellmau is a great mountain village. If you like hiking, you can consider purchasing a Summer ski lift Card giving you access to 14 lifts in the region. An absolute must is the Hintersteinersee. Itter is basically very small village, but on the other hand, you can find there all of services what you exactly need when you are in vacation. Definitely go with cabin to Hohe Salve and try to go down the hill. It´s almost 10km and 900hm. There are couple of restaurants and small COOP and bakery. The town of Soll is nice with some pedestrian streets and lovely traditional buildings. The people in the shops restaurants are bars were very friendly. The resort is clean. Good ski bus service. The village itself is small compared to surrounding resorts such as Soll. It is peaceful and quiet l, mainly consists of high end hotels, with guests staying in on the evenings and using the facilities of the individual properties. Its a very quiet resort even when I visited at peak season. There is no bars/pubs and only 1 restaurant and a small supermarket. It is fairly spread out but there is free shuttle bus to and from the gondela. There is also frequent service to Soll where there is many more options for eating and entertainment but the last bus is about 19.00. The village has walking trails running through it and up into the mountains, and there is a beautiful lake a short distance away. The ski area itself isn't the highest but had plenty of snow when I visited. Definitely enough of an area to explore in a week's trip. Lovely village with great restaurants and friendly couple of bars. The ski shop staff are very professional and helpful with pleasant demeanours, all speak perfect english as well which is a bonus. The resort retains its charm and in my opinion is better than staying in Kitzbuhel. A stunning area in Austria, we stayed for 1 week for the skiing season which was perfect. We also thought that it would be a wonderful place to visit and stay, in Pension Rainer, for a walking holiday. The facilities, bars, cafes and restaurants were fantastic and everyone we met without exception were so welcoming, helpful and friendly. Scheffau is a beautiful village, located 1 km above the Main Street. You can reach it via train or plane plus taxi or car rental. You might not need your own car during your ski holiday.
