Beautiful and clean restored heritage building. Our corner room was extremely large offering a great view of town center. The room had all facilities. Nice bathroom. We had dinner and breakfast in the bistro and both were excellent, especially the Chicken Parma. We will be back again. Glad we picked this country town and hotel rather than the larger cities.

We enjoyed a private Spa with a nice view and a glass of sparkling wine. The most romantic trip we have had. We used to go to a day spa in Daylesford. It was about $80 per person. Thinking of the comfort and price, it was the most cost effective trip Id say. We come back next year :)

Ballarat is very different from Adelaide, countryside is very relaxing and pretty. I liked the heritage buildings in the city, there are multiple schools, seems like a busy area but not a over crowded place. There are new estate areas to build your home at a reasonable price. Daylsford is a very nice place, there's lots to see and do in Ballarat.

Bendigo is quite a surprise if you haven't been there.

Bendigo is quite a surprise if you haven't been there. The main thing is the grand colonial style you see everywhere, all remnants of the rich gold rush times. The city park is not to be missed: enormous trees, perfectly manicured lawns, a water cascade and an amazing mosaic round the pop head on top of the hill. There's also a large fruit bat colony. Bendigo Art Gallery is soso, depending on which exhibitions are on at the time. The whole place is very walkable and there is good food throughout the place, Kang Thai specially recommended.

Enjoy walking through the stunning autumn colours in your winter coat as you soak in the natural beauty all around. The local eateries are a short drive from local accommodation and are popular with both locals and tourists alike. It's the perfect weekend or week long getaway destination. I'll be back!

I love coming to Castlemaine, it is a beautiful town with friendly locals. It has a great theatre/cinema & many artistic spaces & galleries. I love the Fish'n'chips on the corner & the wonderful Malaysian restaurant. The bookshop is a gem & do not forget to take away bottles of the local non-alcoholic apple cider: it tastes of fresh apples.

The resort was clean and tidy, although could use with some updating, it felt a little tired. The spa in the room was by far the highlight, the view looking out the window was peaceful. We were excited to go to the pool and spa area as it looked so good on the website, but we were disappointed when we got there that the spa had been drained and was not in use. We already knew that the day spa area itself was closed for renovations so this just added to the disappointment, and I'm not sure if this was all factored into the cost or not as the room rate was ok but could have been less considering lots of facilities were not in use. Also it seemed odd that the pool area closes at 5pm when the staff go home, bit of a rush to have a swim as check in is 3pm. The meal at the restaurant was delicious but very expensive, I got the steak which was an extra $10 and then sides another additional cost, I felt the steak was overpriced once you added sides. The entrée lettuce gems were divine, and we thought the rolls with entrée would have been a nice local sour dough or similar, but they were just the regular oval shaped rolls that we get at the local supermarket at home. The wait staff at the restaurant were fantastic and very welcoming and friendly. I would suggest getting an upper floor room as you can hear the spa above when you are in a ground floor room, it wasn't a huge deal but just a tip for those who are unsure whether to pay the extra cost, I think it would be worth it and I hope we return sometime in the future and we will do the same. The area is gorgeous, so many great little stops along the way from Ballarat, and Woodend is a cute little town. As the restaurant at the resort wasn't serving breakfast, we went into town to Paysanne cafe and give it 5 stars.
