Having travelled through Europe for 30+ years, this was my ideal, perfect, stop over. Absolutely spot on. Exactly what I'm hoping for when traveling. Germany is a safe bet when it comes to cleanliness and good food served without any extra frills, just plain good food, so choosing a good hotel or Gasthof is not much of a gamble. But this place was, for me, extraordinary. It had a wonderful restaurant which included the reception. A very kind and considerate lady welcomed me and followed me to my room. A huge one that was super fresh but still genuine. She told me that her son was the 5th generation running the Gasthof and also informed which waiter was the best in English for my upcoming dinner. So a shower and then into the rustic and lovely Gasthof restaurant. I had tonights special which was veal schnitzel and it was PERFECT together with a glass of Riesling. Just sitting there and enjoying the atmosphere. Next day I met the owner, the son in the house, and complemented him for this achievement. I'd recommend this gasthof/hotel to anyone. Absolutely ideal. It only took 30 years to find it. :-) Another bonus is that coming from Stockholm there is one main obstacle you want to avoid. The traffic jams of Hamburg and in particular the Elbes tunnel. In best case it's an extra 30 mins but during holidays and rush hour it can be very daunting. I found this hotel on Booking and choose it because it seemed fresh and was just south of the Elbe river so that next day I would have passed it and have a fresh start continuing south to Alsace. It's a 1000 kms drive from Stockholm and some kms before Hamburg centre my GPS showed me an alternative route. It took me through smaller streets but I was running and I crossed the Elbe via bridges and found this Gasthof in Hohenluft. And it was great to get going without any traffic jam worries.

The buildings both old and new are excellent and in keeping with the local area. The quality of everything was outstanding. We also enjoyed dinner in their restaurant, it was fantastic, a clear recommendation if you have the time. Parking was convenient. The area was lovely for going for a walk.

I recently stayed at this hotel together with my work colleagues, and we were all very pleased with the experience. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well-maintained, which made our stay very comfortable. The dining area was absolutely beautiful – a perfect place to enjoy breakfast and relax after a day of activities. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, always ready to assist with a smile. Another highlight was the location – the surrounding area is stunning and offered a peaceful atmosphere that made the trip even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling with a group or looking for a relaxing getaway!

Location outside of the city. Its not a typical chain hotel where everything is available 24/ 7 but honestly this also adds charm to its character. Property builds on heritage of the buildings giving it very genuine feel during the stay. They do facilitate dogs which in my case is a big winner ! Rooms are very clean and staff is extremely helpful and facilitating even if one comes late. Breakfast is fabulous.

Room kitted out with kettle and complimentary herbal teas and bottled water. Bathrobes were fabulous! Staff were so engaging and welcoming; with tips and advice on local places of interest.     Soltau has at least two excellent destinations for travellers. For good shopping, visit the Designer Outlet and for fun, visit the Heide Park! Additionally, you can take a short drive to Serengeti Park (some 40 kilometres) and enjoy a wonderful wildlife experience!

    Generally in expectations of activities offered, you get what you expect. Everything is in close proximity and it is easy to get around. It does not seem to be very busy though. Maybe some kind of events could help.

    I write this as a warning to all travelers.

    I write this as a warning to all travelers. The stay was awful, the bed was broken and when we informed the owner they said it was all normal so we ended up sleeping on the floor because the bed was broken. we came up and argued with them because they also won't give our money back and flabbergasted at us, which is not how you should treat your guests. we so much considered reporting them to the police because they made our stay so bad. But I do not want such a stay for others who expect what is shown in the picture, that you should not order here. everything in the picture is fake and is not the same as in the picture. So I hope you will all heed this warning because I don't wish you what happened to us and apparently it is normal for them to sleep in a broken bed. Furthermore, there is no view as stated on the website.

    Walsrode is a quiet town with a couple of animal based attractions (a bird park and a 'Serengeti' park). There are a few places to eat in the town but the 2 restaurants in the East of the town get booked very quickly.

    Great place for a stop over on the way south (or on return), as it is very close to the highway (but far enough to be quit). Hotel is fine with a nice restaurant. The moor is not far away. Will come back for sure.

    Breakfast is really good, it’s quiet 🤫 they are really nice to their customers, the welcome bottle of water, cleanness is another good reason, their 🛏 beds are really good, you’re going to sleep like a baby.

    We drove from Malaga in Spain to Sweden.

    We drove from Malaga in Spain to Sweden. The positioning of this area suited our driving hours/per day plan of 7 to 8 hours from previous hotel. So we were just 'passing through and stayed in a hotel where we could have dinner, sleep and then carrty on the next morning
